Milling tool, use thereof and milling process

A milling tool includes a cutting insert, a holder, a fastener and a shim. The fastener forms a first channel cooperatively with the cutting insert. The first channel is configured to direct coolant towards a top side of the insert. In order to better prevent thermal fatigue of the cutting insert under milling conditions, the shim includes a second channel configured to direct coolant towards a clearance side of the cutting insert. A method of using a milling tool and a milling process are also provided.

A milling tool has a milling tool main element which has a first end with an interface for connection to a machine-side tool holder, and a free second end with at least one seat for receiving an exchangeable cutting insert. The following are arranged at the seat: a first support element for supporting a first side face of the cutting insert, which first support element is reversibly fastened to the milling tool main element by a first fastening element, a second support element for supporting a second side face of the cutting insert, which second support element is reversibly fastened to the milling tool main element by a second fastening element, and a third support element for supporting an underside of the cutting insert. The third support element is reversibly fastened to the milling tool main element by a third fastening element.

A cutting tool including a toolholder and a round cutting insert for mounting on a pocket floor of the toolholder. The toolholder includes the toolholder pocket floor having a bore and a plurality of grooves in the pocket floor arranged radially about the bore, wherein adjacent grooves are radially offset by a groove offset angle, x. The round cutting insert includes an upper surface having a cutting edge, a lower surface opposite the upper surface, an exterior side surface between the upper surface and the lower surface, an interior side surface defining an aperture extending from the upper surface to the lower surface, and a plurality of lugs arranged radially about the aperture. In an alternate embodiment, the cutting tool includes an anti-rotation disc with a plurality of grooves instead of the toolholder pocket floor.
