Diamond cutting tools

The embodiments described herein relate to methods, systems, and structures for cutting a part to form a highly reflective and smooth surface thereon. In some embodiments, the part includes substantially horizontal and vertical surfaces with edges and corners. In described embodiments, a diamond cutter is used to cut a surface of the part during a milling operation where the diamond cutter contacts the part a number of times with each rotation of the spindle of a milling machine. The diamond cutter has a cutting edge and a land. The cutting edge cuts the surface of the part and the land burnishes the surface of the part to form a highly reflective and smooth surface. Thus, the diamond cutter cuts and burnishes portions of the part, thereby eliminating a subsequent polishing step.

COMPONENTS OF AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHODS FOR THEIR ASSEMBLY

Various components of an electronic device housing and methods for their assembly are disclosed. The housing can be formed by assembling and connecting two or more different sections together. The sections of the housing may be coupled together using one or more coupling members. The coupling members may be formed using a two-shot molding process in which the first shot forms a structural portion of the coupling members, and the second shot forms cosmetic portions of the coupling members.

Diamond cutting tool and method for manufacturing the same

There is provided a diamond cutting tool including a cutting edge portion containing single crystal diamond or binderless polycrystalline diamond and graphite, wherein when Raman spectroscopy is performed on a surface of the cutting edge portion, a ratio R1 of Ig1 to a sum of Id1 and the Ig1 is equal to or more than 0.5 and equal to or less than 1, where the Id1 represents a peak intensity of first carbon in the surface, the Ig1 represents a peak intensity of second carbon in the surface, the first carbon represents carbon that forms the single crystal diamond or the binderless polycrystalline diamond.

Cutting insert and method of manufacturing cutting insert

A cutting insert includes a substrate and a cutting-edge insert. The substrate has, in a thickness direction of the substrate, a bottom surface, and a top surface opposite to the bottom surface. The top surface has a polygonal shape composed of a plurality of sides in a plan view as seen along the thickness direction. The top surface is provided with a projection projecting to a side opposite to the bottom surface along the thickness direction. The projection has a through-hole passing through the substrate along the thickness direction. The projection has a side surface contiguous to the top surface. The side surface is composed of a curved line protruding to a side opposite to the through-hole in the plan view as seen along the thickness direction.

Method for producing a cutting tool

A method for producing a cutting tool including a tool body including a hard coating, the method comprising: applying the hard coating to the tool body at least in an area of a cutting edge, a flank, and a chipping surface; depositing the hard coating on a surface of the tool body, of the cutting tool in an area of the cutting edge, of the flank adjacent to the cutting edge, and of the chipping surface adjacent to the cutting edge; sharpening the cutting edge that is provided with the hard coating and that forms a dull rounded edge by partially removing the hard coating in the area of the flank of the cutting edge by laser machining to form a sharpened cutting edge so that an angle is enclosed between a first geometric plane in which a surface of the tool body extends.
