Nutritional compositions including calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate, protein and low levels of electrolytes

Disclosed are nutritional compositions, and methods of using and making the nutritional compositions, that include calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate and protein. The calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate is in sequestered or ion-exchanged form to reduce the interaction of the calcium with the protein in the nutritional composition and improve the overall stability of the nutritional composition.

USE OF WHEY PROTEIN MICELLES FOR CONTROLLING POSTPRANDIAL GLUCOSE RESPONSE

A method for reducing postprandial glucose from a meal includes orally administering to an individual a composition containing whey protein micelles (WPM) and then subsequently orally administering the meal to the individual after the oral administration of the composition containing the WPM and within about one hour of the oral administration of the composition containing the WPM. For example, the meal can be administered about thirty minutes after the administration of the composition containing the WPM. The postprandial glucose is reduced relative to postprandial glucose from administering a corresponding composition comprising whey protein isolate.

Disclosed is a method for providing amino acids in a form having improved solubility and/or improved suspension properties, and a product made by the method. The method also provides protein and amino acid compositions having decreased viscosity following heat treatment.

USE OF WHEY PROTEIN MICELLES FOR ENHANCING ENERGY EXPENDITURE AND SATIETY

The present invention relates to whey protein micelles for use in the treatment and/or prevention of overweight and/or obesity in a subject. The invention relates also to a non-therapeutic use of whey protein micelles to increase satiety and/or postprandial energy expenditure in a subject. A further aspect of the invention is a food composition to be administered to an overweight or obese subject, or to a subject at risk of becoming overweight or obese.

MODIFIED LIGAND-GATED ION CHANNELS AND METHODS OF USE
20210403522 · 2021-12-30 ·

This document relates to materials and methods for controlling ligand gated ion channel (LGIC) activity. For example, modified LGICs including at least one LGIC subunit having a modified ligand binding domain (LBD) and/or a modified ion pore domain (IPD) are provided. Also provided are exogenous LGIC ligands that can bind to and activate the modified LGIC, as well as methods of modulating ion transport across the membrane of a cell of a mammal, methods of modulating the excitability of a cell in a mammal, and methods of treating a mammal having a channelopathy.

Composition and method for germinative compounds in probiotic food and beverage products for human consumption

A composition and method for activating probiotic spores in food and beverage products, such as steeped teas, coffee, soups, and sauces. A nutrient-germinant composition comprises one or more L-amino acids, optionally one or more buffers to maintain the pH of the composition when added to water in a range of around 6-8, optionally D-glucose, D-fructose, or both D-glucose and D-fructose, and optionally, an osmoprotectant. The nutrient-germinant composition, one or more species of Bacillus spores, and a food or beverage product may be pre-mixed in any combination. Water is added to the mixture and heated to a temperature range of 42 to 100° C. to germinate the probiotic spores prior to being consumed.

NOVEL PROTEIN MATERIAL

The invention relates to a protein material includes angiogenin and/or angiogenin hydrolysate in an amount of 2 to 15 mg/100 mg, and cystatin and/or cystatin hydrolysate in the mass ratio to angiogenin and/or angiogenin hydrolysate of 0.003 to 0.6.

Formulations for nutritional support in subjects in need thereof
11197917 · 2021-12-14 · ·

Formulations having a protein component, in which the protein contains one or more digestion-aiding proteins, and/or one or more immunoprotective proteins. The formulations may also contain a fat component, a carbohydrate component, and vitamins and minerals. These formulations can be used to provide nutritional support to a subject, either as dietary supplements or as a primary source of nutrition, such as for an infant formula.
