In CNC wire cutting process, the deflection of the wire due to cutting force is proportional to square of the wire length. Hence it is beneficial to adjust wire length as per job size and keep it minimal. But existing wire cutting machines, wire length adjustment is not feasible. Hence there is a need to develop a simple user-friendly method of wire length adjustment. This invention proposes a simple user-friendly method of wire length adjustment in abrasive wire (100A) and hot wire cutting (100B) machines. This invention also proposes an intelligent faster cutting method without affecting wire life or pulley life. This invention also proposes an intelligent method of start point selection in CNC wire cutting machines, to avoid part defects.

A cutting apparatus includes a wire cutting member, a plurality of wheels about which the wire cutting member is at least partially wrapped, a first arm member supporting at least one of the plurality of wheels, and a second arm member supporting at least one of the plurality of wheels. The first arm member and the second arm member may be moveable between a first position, in which the cutting apparatus has a first size, and a second position, in which the cutting apparatus has a second size larger than the first size. A wire saw includes an adjustment member coupled to at least one of a plurality of wheels for moving the at least one of the plurality of wheels to adjust a tension of a wire cutting member. A wire saw includes a visual indicator for indicating an amount of tension applied to a wire cutting member.

The present invention relates to a wire cutting system and method for subsea cutting of large structures (6). The system includes two feeding towers (2) with feeding tower first ends secured into a seabed floor. A crossbeam (1) is located between the two feeding towers (2). Wire feeding trolleys (8) are connected to the feeding towers (2), whereby the wire feeding trolleys (8) are allowed to move a cutting distance along the feeding towers. A cutting wire (4) traverses between the wire feeding trolleys.

An electronic component removal device comprising a cutting wire routed through a cutting region configured to receive an electronic component coupled to a substrate. The electronic component removal device can also include a leading actuator coupled to a leading end of the cutting wire to cause movement of the cutting wire in a cutting direction at a cutting speed. The electronic component removal device can further include a trailing resistance device coupled to a trailing end of the cutting wire to resist movement of the cutting wire in the cutting direction with a variable resistance. In addition, the electronic component removal device can include a leading tension sensor to sense a leading tension in the cutting wire between the cutting region and the leading actuator. The trailing resistance device can resist movement of the cutting wire with a resistance that varies based on the leading tension in the cutting wire.

The elongate guide has an axis approximately perpendicular to an axis of the pipe when the pipe is abutting against the saddle. An exposed portion of the wire loop extends across the open end. The bow is moveable on the elongate guide toward and away from the pipe when the pipe is abutting against the saddle.
