A follow-up swing head type large taper wire cutting device is disclosed. In the large taper wire cutting device, swing heads on upper and lower mechanical arms are adjusted in a follow-up way by swing head rotating mechanisms in coordination with a cutting taper, universal wire guide wheels are used to cooperate with the corresponding upper and lower swing heads, and tensioning mechanisms between the universal wire guide wheels and directional wire guide wheels are used for transition to ensure the smooth transition of an electrode wire, so that the electrode wire is effectively prevented from sliding off during large taper cutting, and the control of the follow-up deflection position of the electrode wire is also very accurate.

A wire electric discharge machining apparatus is provided. The wire electric discharge machining apparatus includes an upper support that supports an upper guide unit that guides a wire electrode on an upper side. The upper support includes an arm having a lower end provided with the upper guide unit, an axis drive portion moving the arm in at least one axial direction and made of a material that has a larger coefficient of linear expansion than ceramics, and an adjustment block connecting the arm and the axis drive portion and made of ceramics. The adjustment block is fixed at a position where a displacement of the upper guide unit caused by expansion and contraction of the upper support is suppressed by a bimetal effect occurring on a fastening surface of the axis drive portion and the adjustment block.

In an electrical discharge machine that applies a voltage between an electrode and a workpiece to generate electrical discharge, an electrode holder holds the electrode. An ultrasonic motor has a fingertip that comes into contact with electrode holder, and moves electrode holder in a driving direction by moving the fingertip in an annular manner at an ultrasonic-range frequency. A roller bearing guides the movement of the electrode holder in the driving direction. A control circuit controls a position of the electrode in the driving direction by driving the ultrasonic motor, and moves the electrode holder based on an abnormality occurring in resistance against the movement of the electrode holder in the driving direction such that the electrode holder is moved by a movement distance equivalent to when the largest roller element among a plurality of roller elements of the roller bearing rolls and rotates once without sliding or longer.
