Systems and methods for manufacturing a shrouded impeller
A method of manufacturing an impeller includes attaching blades to a hub. The impeller includes the blades, the hub, and a shroud. The blades each include a tip, and the shroud includes an inner surface and at least one ring extending from the inner surface. The method also includes applying a brazing compound to the tips of the blades and to the inner surface of the shroud. The method includes inserting the blades and the hub into the shroud such that the tips of the blades press against the rings. The rings and the tips of the blades form an interference fit between the rings and the tips of the blades that maintains a consistent gap between the shroud and the blades during manufacture of the impeller. A compressor including the impeller is also disclosed.
Braze method to modify a passage
A process of modifying a passage in a component is provided. The process includes inserting a first material into the passage; blocking at least one end of the passage; inserting an elongated member into the passage through the first material; heat treating the passage, the first material, and the elongated member to form a solid interior in component; and machining through the solid interior to form a modified passage in the component.
REPAIR METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR HONEYCOMB STRUCTURES IN GAS TURBINE ENGINES
A method of applying a braze component to a honeycomb structure may comprise: applying at least a partial vacuum within a chamber, the chamber defined at least partially by a vacuum device and a cover, the honeycomb structure disposed within the chamber, the braze component disposed between the honeycomb structure and the cover; pulling the cover towards the braze component in response to applying the partial vacuum; and pulling the braze component into a plurality of hexagonal cells defined by the honeycomb structure in response to pulling the cover towards the braze component.
OXIDATION AND WEAR RESISTANT BRAZED COATING
A method includes applying a material coating to a surface of a machine component, wherein the material coating is formed from a combination of a hardfacing material, aluminum-containing particles, and a braze material. The method also includes thermally treating the material coating at a temperature to generate an oxide layer comprising aluminum from the aluminum-containing particles, wherein the oxide layer is configured to reduce oxidation of the hardfacing material, and the braze material is configured to facilitate binding between the material coating and the surface of the machine component.
Method for Manufacturing Core Plug of Gas Turbine Vane Using Brazing
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a core plug of a gas turbine vane, and more particularly to plan and design a core plug formation using brazing comprising: a first step of designing and planning a formation of a core plug; a second step of cutting a Hastelloy X plate according to the design of the core plug; a third step of fabricating a preform of the core plug; a fourth step of spot-welding a trailing edge; a fifth step of pasting a brazing filler; a sixth step of performing brazing heat treatment; a seventh step of performing grinding a brazed portion; an eighth step of performing a grit blasting.
According to the method for manufacturing a core plug of a gas turbine vane using brazing of the present invention above-mentioned, there is a significant effect of reducing manufacturing cost by in which the process is simple, and there is no deformation, shrinkages, cracks, and the like, in contrast with a conventional welding method.
TECHNIQUES AND ASSEMBLIES FOR JOINING COMPONENTS USING SOLID RETAINER MATERIALS
The disclosure describes example techniques and assemblies for joining a first component and a second component. The techniques may include positioning the first and second component adjacent to each other to define a joint region between adjacent portions of the first component and the second component. The techniques may also include inserting a solid retainer material into the joint region through an aperture in one of the first component or the second component to form a mechanical interlock between the first component and the second component and sealing the aperture to retain the solid retainer material within the joint region. The solid retainer material includes at least one of a metal, a metal alloy, or a ceramic.
METHODS OF COATING COMPONENTS WITH COLD SPRAY AND BRAZING COATED COMPONENTS
A method for joining two or more metallic components. The method includes operating a cold-spray apparatus to deposit a feedstock comprising nickel-based alloy particles on a braze region of a first metallic component to form a nickel-containing coating on the braze region. The method also includes brazing the first metallic component and a second metallic component by exposing the braze region to a braze material to form a braze joint that bonds the first metallic component to the second metallic component.
BACKWALL STRIKE BRAZE REPAIR
A process of repairing a component includes identifying a void in a component; determining at least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting borescope into the component in order to view the void; providing a repair rod approximately equivalent to at least one of the least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting the repair rod into component; confirming insertion of the repair rod in the void; separating the repair rod to leave a repair plug in the void; and depositing braze paste over the repair plug in the void.
MATERIAL DEPOSITION FOR FLUID NOZZLE JOINTS
A method of making a fluid injection component for a gas turbine engine includes depositing material onto a piece of tube stock. The method includes machining an elbow into the deposited material, wherein machining the elbow includes forming a braze joint surface in the deposited material. Depositing can include laser cladding the material onto the piece of tube stock.
MATERIAL DEPOSITION FOR FLUID INJECTORS
A method of making a fluid injector for a gas turbine engine includes depositing material onto a piece of tube stock. The method includes machining the deposited material into a fluid injector component. Depositing can include laser cladding the material onto the piece of tube stock. The method can include placing or flowing braze into a braze joint location between the deposited material and another fluid injector component and forming the braze into a braze joint in the braze joint location.
