An electrode used for resistance welding is described. In an embodiment, the electrode comprises a two-part construction having an electrode tip portion that is removably contactable to an electrode base. The electrode is constructed such that the respective base and electrode tip portions may be composed of metals having differing melting temperatures, in particular a significant difference in melting temperature of at least 100 C. or more. The electrode is preferably constructed so that the electrode tip portion can be easily removed, thereby leaving the base portion within the fixture.

Electrode structure for resistance welding

An electrode structure is provided in which an upper pin having a magnet is built in a cavity inside an upper electrode so as to be vertically movable to allow its front end portion to protrude downward, and a lower pin is arranged so as to face the upper pin and built in a cavity inside a lower electrode so as to be vertically movable to allow its front end portion to protrude upward. In a state where the front end portion of the upper pin protrudes downward, the weld nut inserted onto it is attracted and held by the magnet. In a state where the upper pin is pushed upward by the lower pin, the weld nut comes off the upper pin and drops due to a less attracting force by the magnet, and then fitted onto the lower pin at a position higher than a workpiece.

The composite body can include a shell defining a cavity through the end portion, the shell comprising a first metal that includes one or more of the following: a precipitation hardened copper alloy, copper alloy, and carbon steel. The composite body can also include a core within the shell, the core extending through the shell from the tip portion to the cavity, the core comprising a second metal that includes dispersion strengthened copper. The core and the shell have a metallurgical bond formed from co-extrusion.

The end section has a width that is greater than a width of the respective lead. The respective lead is aligned within the width of the end section, such that the respective lead extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the width of the end section. With the respective lead and the end section aligned, the respective lead is welded to the end section.

This welding includes contacting magnetic rigid bodies (26-1, 26-2) to a peripheral area of the electrode (23) from the one side against which the electrode (23) is held and securing an overlapping region in the peripheral area of the electrode (23) by a magnetic force produced by the rigid bodies (26-1, 26-2), thereby obtaining a weld having fully satisfactory strength, regardless of the rigidity of the members.

An electrode is provided for the resistance welding of bolts, having an upper part and a lower part which are configured to be connectable together and, in the connected state, jointly provide a cavity, the upper part having an opening for introducing a bolt, and the lower part having a gas connection for a pressurized gas. A valve body, by way of which the opening is closable, is arranged in the cavity. As a result, applied compressed air is prevented from flowing out. Compressed air only emerges when the valve body opens up the opening.
