FSW tool with a stationary shoulder
A set of fittings for an FSW tool (friction-stir-welding tool) includes an adapter that can be inserted into a tool-receiving element and is designed to receive a welding rod, and a shoulder cap that includes a through-opening for the welding rod and the adapter. The shoulder cap includes a welding shoulder region adjacent to the through-opening on the outer surface. The adapter can be rotated in relation to the shoulder cap, about a longitudinal axis extending concentrically to the through-opening. The inner contour of the through-opening and a radial outer contour of the adapter have a conical shape at least on the end facing the welding point. In this way, a conical annular gap is created between the adapter and the shoulder cap, the width of which is adjustable by positioning the adapter along the longitudinal axis.
Production of a planar connection between an electrical conductor and a contact piece
A method is provided for electrically conductively connecting a contact part to a conductor having a multiplicity of individual wires includes inserting the conductor into a cavity in the contact part and lowering a tool for friction stir welding onto the contact part. The tool for friction stir welding is moved on the contact part in a plane, thus giving rise to a planar cohesive connection between the contact part and the conductor. In this way, a direct cohesive connection of a stranded conductor and a contact part is produced without the need for an additional part such as a sleeve, for example, to prevent the stranded conductor from sticking out.
REPAIR/MODIFICATION METHOD FOR METALLIC SUBSTRATES
The repair/modification method for metallic substrates according to the present invention includes: a step for preparing a metallic substrate having a first region that is divided in an in-plane direction of the substrate, the first region containing a defect and/or a structurally discontinuous portion; and a step for repairing the defect and/or modifying the structurally discontinuous portion by pressing a friction tool which does not have a probe against a top surface of the first region while rotating the friction tool so as to generate frictional heat while pressing on the top surface.
LOADING FEEDSTOCK INTO AN ADDITIVE FRICTION STIR DEPOSITION MACHINE
A method for loading feedstock bars into an additive friction stir deposition machine (AFSD) is described. The method comprises containing a plurality of feedstock bars in a container disposed adjacent to a spindle of the additive friction stir deposition machine. The method further comprises moving one feedstock bar of the plurality of feedstock bars into axial alignment with the spindle of the additive friction stir deposition machine.
PRE-WELD MODIFICATION TECHNIQUE FOR A CUSTOM WELDED BLANK
A technique for producing tailored metal blanks composed of two pieces having different thickness involves modifying at least one piece to include a transition region. A thickness of a modified piece changes over the transition region so that a substantially similar thickness is provided along a joint of the two pieces. The two pieces, subsequent to modification, are joined via a welding process, which may be a laser welding process or a friction stir welding process.
FRICTION STIR WELDED AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE AND METHOD
An aircraft control structure includes first and second outer surfaced joined to a side wall. Stiffening webs extends between the first and second outer surfaces, each stiffening web at least partially surrounding an associated aperture formed in either the first or second outer surface and defining a stiffening recess. Skin plates are sized to extend over an associated stiffening recess and are shaped to conform to an associated aperture. Each skin plate is joined to an associated stiffening web by a friction stir welded seam.
Friction-Stir-Welded Sheet-and-Post Sidewall
The disclosed wall includes several narrow aluminum sheets and posts that are Friction Stir Welded (FSW) into a sidewall. The length of the wall is the summation of the narrow sheets' width, and the walls width is the narrow sheets' length. Several aluminum posts are spaced along the wall's length direction in order to improve the stiffness and strength of the wall. When welding the aluminum sheets and posts together, the sheets are placed under the posts and jointed tightly together through FSW. With the high-speed spinning of the stirring pin, the post and sheet melt and form into a compact solid phase weld seam under the extrusion of the welding head. When welding two aluminum sheets and one post together, the two sheets are placed edge-to-edge or slightly overlapped. The post is then placed over the sheet joint and the stir-welding head melts portions of the post and the two sheets simultaneously.
FRICTION STIR WELDING APPARATUS AND FRICTION STIR WELDING SYSTEM COMPRISING THE SAME
The presently disclosed technology includes a friction stir welding apparatus comprising a frame, a moving platform and a parallel mechanism composed of three branch mechanisms, wherein a first branch mechanism comprises a first sliding pair, a first revolute pair, a telescopic rod and a first spherical pair connected in sequence. A second branch mechanism and a third branch mechanism both comprise a third sliding pair, a second revolute pair, a third linkage and a second spherical pair connected in sequence. The friction stir welding apparatus has high stiffness, low inertia, high dynamic performance and high accuracy, which can achieve precision welding with high requirements on processing quality and accuracy for jointing annular seams of large-scale rocket fuel storage tank barrels in the aviation field, for example. The presently disclosed technology also includes a corresponding friction stir welding system.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HEAT TRANSFER PLATE
The present invention is characterized by including a heat medium pipe insertion process to insert a heat medium pipe into a concave groove; a lid plate insertion process to insert a lid plate into a lid groove; and a joining process to perform friction stirring while a primary joining rotary tool provided with a base side pin and a tip side pin is moved along a butted portion of a side wall of the lid groove and a side face of the lid plate, wherein in the joining process, friction stirring is performed while the tip side pin of the primary rotary tool which is rotating is inserted into the butted portion and an outer circumferential face of the base side pin is in contact with the base member and the lid plate, and plastically fluidized material fluidized by frictional heat is flowed into a void portion formed adjacent to the heat medium pipe.
METHOD FOR LOW-TEMPERATURE JOINING OF METAL MATERIALS, AND JOINT STRUCTURE
A low-temperature joining method effectively suppresses reductions in the mechanical properties of a junction of various types of high-tensile steel or aluminum, and of a heat-affected zone; and produces a joint structure. A method for joining two metal materials by forming a joint interface in which the two metal materials face each other at a joint portion and plunge a rotation tool caused to rotate at a prescribed speed into the joint, the method for low-temperature joining of metal materials characterized in that the peripheral velocity of the outermost periphery of the rotation tool is set to 51 mm/s or less, whereby the recrystallization temperature inherent to the metal materials is reduced by introducing a large strain to the joint, and recrystallized grains are generated at the joint interface by setting the joining temperature to less than the recrystallization temperature inherent to the metal materials.
