The base plate has a cutout notch formed therein to accommodate a clamp subassembly which includes a U-shaped swing member and a clamping bracket. The base plate has a substantially rectangular shape, and has a horizontally extending groove formed in an upper surface thereof. The apparatus also includes a fence with a guide portion and a slide arm integrally attached to the guide portion. The slide arm of the fence fits slidably in the groove of the base plate. A kit for constructing the apparatus and a method of using the apparatus are also disclosed.

Such a system includes multiple support units aligned in a longitudinal direction of a foundation and longitudinal and cross cutting units translatable in the longitudinal direction for performing, respectively, longitudinal and lateral cuts in a material. The support units are independently translatable in the longitudinal direction and each support unit has a crossmember that extends in the lateral direction, is adapted to at least partially support the material, and is operable to be raised and lowered in the vertical direction while the material is supported by the crossmembers.

The two workpiece bearing supports are separated from each other by a gap that extends along the second direction. The parts chute is movable between a first chute position and a second chute position so as to move a cut-free workpiece part that has dropped into the gap, laterally away from the gap. The machine includes a receiving unit movable in the second direction, to receive the cut-free workpiece part at a transfer position and transport the workpiece part to one or more discharging positions of the machine along the second direction.

Whether the piercing step is completed is determined based on the arc voltage. The plasma torch is held at the piercing position in the horizontal direction from the start of the piercing step until the completion of the piercing step. The plasma torch is moved in a predetermined direction including at least the horizontal direction after the piercing step is completed.
