Ceramic matrix composite airfoil repair

Methods for repairing composite components are provided. For instance, one exemplary method includes machining an interlocking feature into an existing component. A replacement material or core having an interlocking feature complementary to the interlocking feature of the existing component is then joined with the component. The interlocking features interlock to form a joint. The joint is then overlaid with one or more plies to rebuild the outer surface of the component and seal the joint. A bonding process can be used to chemically bond the newly joined parts together. Repaired composite components are also provided.

Fuel nozzle heat shield

An aft heat shield for a fuel nozzle tip includes: an annular shield wall; an annular shield flange extending radially outward from an aft end of the shield wall; an annular baffle flange surrounding the conical section, and disposed such that an axial gap is defined between the shield flange and the baffle flange, the baffle flange including a radially outer rim extending axially forward therefrom; and a plurality of impingement cooling holes passing through the baffle flange and oriented to as to direct air flow towards the shield wall.

A dual walled component includes a spar comprising a plurality of pedestals; a coversheet attached to a first set of pedestals from the plurality of pedestals; and a repaired coversheet portion attached to a second set of pedestals from the plurality of pedestals and to the coversheet, where the repaired coversheet portion includes a braze material.

Repair member for a vane assembly of a gas turbine and method for repairing a damaged vane of a vane assembly of a gas turbine

The repair member includes an inner platform, an outer platform portion, and an airfoil portion connecting the inner and outer platform portions; the inner platform portion is configured so to reach an edge of a first ring or sector of ring of a vane assembly of the damaged vane, and the outer platform portion is configured so to reach an edge of a second ring or sector of ring of the a vane assembly of the damaged vane; the inner platform portion, the outer platform portion, and the airfoil portion are configured so to allow insertion of the repair member into the vane assembly by a pure translation movement being along an insertion direction and having a movement component parallel to an axes of the first and second rings or sectors of ring.

Method for maintaining a turbomachine

Provided is a method for maintaining an axial-flow turbomachine, which has a support structure and a plurality of axially adjacent guide vane rings each of which has a plurality of guide vanes, each guide vane having at least one platform, the platforms being fastened to the support structure by means of retaining elements, wherein facing platform end faces of axially adjacent guide vanes define sealing sections made of a metal material, the sealing sections being associated with each other and jointly forming a sealing assembly.

VARIABLE VANE ARRANGEMENT WITH VANE RECEPTACLE INSERT(S)

An assembly is provided for a variable vane arrangement of a turbine engine. A platform extends circumferentially about a centerline and radially relative to the centerline between a first platform side and a second platform side. The platform includes a plurality of variable vane receptacles arranged in an annular array about the axial centerline, which variable vane receptacles include a first variable vane receptacle. The first variable vane receptacle is configured with a recess, a bore and a shelf. The recess extends longitudinally along a variable vane pivot axis into the platform from the first platform side to the shelf. The bore extends longitudinally along the variable vane pivot axis into the platform from the shelf. An insert includes a sleeve and a plate. The sleeve lines at least a portion of the bore. The plate is located within the recess adjacent the shelf.

Turbine blade of gas turbine having cast tip

Provided is a turbine blade of a gas turbine including a turbine blade part having an airfoil shape including an internal cavity therein, a cast tip disposed at an upper portion of the turbine blade part, and a braze joint to attach the turbine blade part and the cast tip to each other. The turbine blade part and the cast tip has substantially the same cross-sectional shape in a top plan view. In addition, the turbine blade part further includes a protrusion disposed at a surface where the turbine blade part is attached to the cast tip. In a similar manner, the cast tip may have a concave portion at a surface where the cast tip is attached to the turbine blade part to allow the concave portion to be coupled to the protrusion of the turbine blade part.
