Embodiments of an electric linear actuator may include a roller screw assembly, an electric motor coupled to the roller screw assembly, and a linear transducer operatively coupled with the roller screw assembly. The motor may be configured to drive the roller screw assembly to extend and retract another component, such as a rod. In some embodiments, the linear transducer may be configured to detect a position of the rod. The roller screw assembly may be coupled directly to the motor via a gear coupling, with the motor disposed generally in axial alignment with the roller screw assembly. Other embodiments disclosed herein include a veneer lathe carriage with electric linear actuators and corresponding apparatuses, methods, and systems.

A control device 10 for a machine tool machines a workpiece W including at least one tooth surface and comprises: a machining condition input unit 15 which can input a machining condition including at least one of specifications of the workpiece W, specifications of a tool T, a feed speed, the rotational speed of a spindle, and the number of teeth; a surface pattern calculation unit 16, which calculates, on the basis of the machining condition, a surface pattern defined on the basis of intervals of scratches occurring on a machined surface; a swing command generation unit 17, which generates, on the basis of the surface pattern, a swing command for achieving a surface pattern including a portion in which the intervals of the scratches are unequal; and a position and speed control unit 14 which carries out the machining while swinging the workpiece W and the tool T relatively to each other on the basis of the swing command generated by the swing command generation unit 17.

A machine tool includes a workpiece spindle device which rotates a workpiece, a tool post which can move a tool in a first axis direction (X-axis direction) which is a radial direction of the workpiece and a second axis direction (Z-axis direction) which is an axial direction of the workpiece, and an articulated robot including a plurality of arms, a plurality of joints, and end effectors. The plurality of joints connect the plurality of arms in a rotatable manner around an axis parallel to a third axis (Y-axis) orthogonal to the first axis and the second axis, and the end effectors move in a plane parallel to a movement plane of the tool.

SYSTEM FOR REPROFILING A WHEEL SET OF A RAILWAY VEHICLE
A system for reprofiling a wheel set of a railway vehicle allows the center of rotation of the wheel set to move relative to supporting rollers. A cutting tool used to reprofile the wheel profile on a wheel set is moved relative to the center of rotation of the wheel set to maintain a constant distance between the center of rotation and the cutter. The rollers are maintained in a fixed position during the cutting process. The system avoids mechanically forcing a constant location of the wheel set relative to the center of rotation.
