A universal machining system capable of accommodating multiple small-batch or one-off machining jobs, involving workpieces of different diameter and composition, comprises a rotating chuck having multiple jaws that may be adjusted positionally inward or outward towards the longitudinal centerline of the workpiece or removed entirely, and a tool turret capable of holding a variety of socketed tools. System also comprises a measurement sensor, which may be separate or comprise one of the socketed tools. A control program collects machining instructions for a series of workpieces, and directs the chuck, the tool turret, the measurement sensor, and at least one robot to load/unload workpieces and tools from the chuck and turret, respectively, measure workpieces and tools for quality control, and track available storage, overriding or skipping individual machining instructions as dictated by safety parameters and the availability of raw materials and tools.

A machine tool has a cover that prevents chips generated by machining and cutting fluid from scattering around and a plurality of movable nozzles with liquid discharge directions thereof being movable so as to wash out chips that have adhered to or accumulated on an inner surface of the cover. The machine tool is capable of changing a discharge direction of each of the movable nozzles individually. The machine tool compares the state of the inside of the cover before start of machining with the state of the inside of the cover after chips are generated to determine an adhesion or accumulation state of chips. The machine tool thus calculates the liquid discharge direction to wash out chips from the movable nozzles based on a result of the determination.

SERVO TUNING DEVICE AND SERVO TUNING METHOD

A servo tuning device adapted to a multi-axis machine tool at least having two linear axes and a rotation axis used for a moving base and a working platform to move relatively along the two linear axes and the rotation axis. The servo tuning device includes a reflection component, a photoelectric sensor and a processor. The reflection component is configured to be disposed on one of the moving base and the working platform and has a reflection surface. The photoelectric sensor has a light-emitting element and a light-receiving element facing the reflection surface. The photoelectric sensor is configured to be disposed on the other one of the moving base and the working platform. The processor records information of relative movement between the photoelectric sensor and the reflection surface for calculating a loop gain value used for tuning a servo setting of the two linear axes or the rotation axis.

A power tool is provided. The tool has a housing containing an internal drive system that drives an output member that engages a workpiece and exerts mechanical force thereupon. A force sensor and a positional sensor are operatively connected to the drive system to sense characteristic variables of the drive system during engagement of the workpiece. A light unit is positioned on a front end and a top portion of the housing so as to be able to direct light of various colors onto the workpiece. A control unit is operatively connected to the drive system and the light unit so as to control the light unit based on the characteristic variables of the drive system measured by the sensors. The light unit may illuminate a colored light on the workpiece depending on whether or not the workpiece was determined to be fastened according to predetermined specifications.

MACHINE TOOL SYSTEM

A machine tool system includes a machine tool main body for machining a workpiece supported on a table by using a tool detachably attached to a spindle, and an information processing apparatus. The machine tool main body includes a rotary tool magazine in which multiple grips each capable of holding the tool to be attached to the spindle are provided along the circumferential direction, and an image pickup device that is arranged in the tool magazine and configured to take an image of multiple members in a machining area of the machine tool main body. The information processing apparatus includes a geometric feature calculating unit configured to calculate the shapes and the arrangement state of the multiple members in the machining area, based on image data of the image taken by the image pickup device.

A machine tool with a chip evacuation device according to the present invention is provided with a cleaning mechanism for cleaning a part or the whole of the chip evacuation device and a control unit configured to control respective operations of the chip evacuation device and the cleaning mechanism in association with each other. By using an electric motor, such as a synchronous motor capable of position control, as a power source for the chip evacuation device, the respective operations of the chip evacuation device and the cleaning mechanism can be associated with each other to effectively clean the chip evacuation device.

Systems and methods for real-time monitoring of micromilling tool wear

The wear status of a micro-endmill tool may be inferred by monitoring the chip production rate of the tool in operation. Chips may be extracted from a work area, captured on an adhesive surface, imaged, and counted to determine the chip production rate. When the rate of chip production falls, the feed rate of the micro-endmill may be modified to a level suitable for the current state of tool wear. In this manner, costly and inconvenient work stoppages to evaluate the wear status of a tool are eliminated.
