The present disclosure provides a coating applicator operable to apply a coating of a therapeutic agent upon an object comprising an openable and sealable device compartment, a therapeutic agent positioned in communication with the device compartment, an atomizer operable to atomize the therapeutic agent, and a source of vacuum in communication with the device compartment. The coating applicator may further comprise a drier, and the drier may comprise an arrangement to operate the source of vacuum for a time sufficient to promote drying of applied therapeutic agent. Deposition of the atomized therapeutic agent may be promoted by contacting the atomized therapeutic agent while the object is in a chilled condition and by contacting the object with atomized therapeutic agent while the atomized therapeutic agent is in a heated condition. Related methods are also disclosed.

Tissue thickness compensator comprising at least one medicament

A stapling assembly comprising a tissue thickness compensator is disclosed. The tissue thickness compensator comprises a body portion comprising a porous material and a plurality of cavities defined in the body portion, wherein the cavities are aligned with forming surfaces of an anvil such that fasteners of a fastener cartridge are configured to at least one of the cavities when the fasteners are ejected from the fastener cartridge or capture the cavities and compress the cavities within the tissue thickness compensator when the fasteners are ejected from the fastener cartridge and formed by forming surfaces of the anvil. The stapling assembly further comprises at least one medicament positioned within each cavity prior to firing the stapler, wherein the medicament is different than the porous material.

Layer of material for a surgical end effector

A staple cartridge comprising a tissue thickness compensator is disclosed. The tissue thickness compensator comprises an uncompressed height, a compressed height, an outer encasement, and tubular structures aligned along the longitudinal axis. The tubular structures are configured to collapse when pressure is applied to the tissue thickness compensator by tissue during the firing motion.

Abradable therapeutic coatings and devices including such coatings

A method of reducing surgical site infection (SSI), using a coated medical device having a tissue penetrating surface and an abradable coating on the medical device comprising at least one antimicrobial agent in the coating.

Disclosed are compositions, medical devices and methods for ameliorating sterile injury due object use in a subject in need thereof. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to compositions including N-Acetylcysteine and an aminoquinoline. The present disclosure also relates to compositions including an endonuclease and an aminoquinoline. The present disclosure also relates to medical devices including a coating comprising N-Acetylcysteine, an aminoquinoline, an endonuclease, and combinations thereof.

MICRONIZED HYDROPHILIC CROSS-LINKED BIOPOLYMER SYSTEMS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

Disclosed are micronized hydrophilic systems of highly concentrated, cross-linked biopolymers. The system is created by combining a biopolymer with a cross-linking agent under mechanical kneading and allowing the biopolymer to undergo a cross-linking process followed by purification, drying and milling. The resulting micronized biopolymer system has an increased biopolymer concentration and increased longevity within the body.

Reduction of implant infection via tunable stimulation of localized adaptive immune response

Compositions, implantation devices and methods for stimulating an immune response to infection are discussed. In some examples, the compositions, implantation devices or methods of regulating the amplification of an adaptive immune response to infection involves use of one or more particles locally at a surgical or implant site to control bacterial infections without detrimental systemic side-effects. In some examples, the particles can be coated or layered onto the surface of an implantable device or material. In other examples, the particles can be injected into the site of implantation.

Mechanically strong absorbable polymeric blend compositions of precisely controllable absorption rates, processing methods, and products therefrom

Novel absorbable polymer blends are disclosed. The blends are useful for manufacturing medical devices having engineered degradation and breaking strength retention in vivo. The blends consist of a first absorbable polymeric component and a second absorbable polymeric component. The weight average molecular weight of the first polymeric component is higher than the weight average molecular weight of the second polymeric component. At least at least one of said components is at least partially end-capped by a carboxylic acid group. Further aspects are medical devices made therefrom.
