Pliers with improved joint design

A hand tool (100) includes a head section (102) including a top jaw (106) and a bottom jaw (108), a handle section (104) including a top handle (112) and a bottom handle (114), and a joint assembly coupling the head section (102) to the handle section (104). The top jaw (106) is coupled to the bottom handle (114) by a first transition portion, and the bottom jaw (108) is operably coupled to the top handle (112) by a second transition portion. The first and second transition portions are pivotally coupled to each other by a pivot pin (140). The first transition portion is disposed on a first side of a longitudinal centerline of the hand tool (100), and at least a majority of the second transition portion is disposed on a second side of the longitudinal centerline such that a width of the first transition portion is less than a width of the second transition portion.

At least some implementations of the present invention include the ability to access and secure a compressed riser portion of a pop-up sprinkler. Access is gained through use of the tip of the tool, sloped for access clearance between the sprinkler nozzle “lip” and outer sprinkler base. Once raised from the outer sprinkler casing, the riser is secured in a designated clamping bay or within designated clamping points. This two-pronged approach accommodates varying diameter of sprinkler risers and increases the multi-use function of the tool. The tool's overall inward tension is provided by an engineered compression spring designed with adequate outward tension without making hand compression use of the tool restrictive. Use of the tool in an inward sweeping motion toward the sprinkler allows for raising and clamping the riser in a quick and simple fashion. Thereafter, allowing free and open-hand access for quick and thorough maintenance, repair, exchange or adjustment of the sprinkler nozzle and filter.

A retrofittable auxiliary pliers handle assembly includes a coupler removably coupled to a grip of a pair of pliers. The coupler is positionable between a free end of the grip and a pivot of the pliers. The coupler includes a receiver positioned laterally away from an exterior lateral surface of the grip. An auxiliary handle is positioned in the receiver such that the auxiliary handle is positioned adjacent to the exterior lateral surface and extends away from the pivot. A finger space is defined between the auxiliary handle and the grip. The auxiliary handle comprises a plate that elongated and has a first end, a second end, a first lateral side, a second lateral side, an upper edge and a lower edge. The coupler engages the plate adjacent to the first end such that the first lateral side faces the exterior lateral surface.

Open-close handheld apparatus and method of adjustment of angle between handheld portions thereof

The present invention relates to an open-close handheld apparatus and a method of adjustment of the angle between the handheld portions thereof. The open-close handheld apparatus includes a first member and a second member. The first member includes a first clamping portion and a first handheld portion. The second member includes a second clamping portion and a second handheld portion. The first clamping portion and the second clamping portion are rotatably and movably connected via a first axle pin. The first clamping portion and the second clamping portion open and close relative to each other, the plane in which the open-close path thereof is located is an open-close plane. The first handheld portion is rotatably connected to the first clamping portion. The plane in which the rotation path of the first handheld portion is located is the same as or parallel to the open-close plane. A locking arrangement is provided at the joint between the first handheld portion and the first clamping portion, used for locking or unlocking the first handheld portion and the first clamping portion.

Multi-tool

A multi-tool includes a pair of plates having respective handle portions, joint portions, and head portions, and the plates pivotally connected to each other at the joint portions and having respective opposite edges extended along the handle portions. At least one of the plates is to be pivoted relative to the other of the plates to establish an open position and a closed position of the plates, and, in the closed position of the plates, the plates to overlap each other and the opposite edges of the handle portions of the plates to be substantially aligned.
