The lifter is configured to receive torque from the drive unit in a first rotational direction for returning the driver blade from the BDC position toward the TDC position. The powered fastener driver further includes a kickout arrangement located between the lifter and the output shaft. The kickout arrangement is configured to permit limited rotation of the lifter relative to the output shaft between a first position and a second position.

LIFTER MECHANISM FOR A POWERED FASTENER DRIVER

A powered fastener driver includes a driver blade movable from a top-dead-center (TDC) position to a bottom-dead-center (BDC) position for driving a fastener into a workpiece and a drive unit for providing torque to move the driver blade from the BDC position toward the TDC position. A rotary lifter is engageable with the driver blade and configured to receive torque from the drive unit for returning the driver blade from the BDC position toward the TDC position. The lifter has a body, a drive pin coupled to the body, and a roller positioned on the drive pin. The roller includes an engagement section configured to receive an end portion of a tooth of the driver blade. The lifter includes a means for aligning the engagement section with the end portion of the tooth on the driver blade to facilitate meshing between the end portion and the roller.

A gas spring-powered fastener driver includes a cylinder, a moveable piston positioned within the cylinder, and a driver blade attached to the piston and movable therewith between a top-dead-center (TDC) position and a driven or bottom-dead-center (BDC) position. The driver blade includes a body and a plurality of teeth extending therefrom. The driver blade defines a driving axis. The gas spring-powered fastener driver further includes a lifter operable to move the driver blade from the BDC position toward the TDC position. Each one of the plurality of teeth includes a contact surface engageable with the lifter. The contact surface of each tooth defines an included angle with the driving axis that is greater than 90 degrees.

FASTENER DRIVING TOOL USING A GAS SPRING

A portable linear fastener driving tool is provided that drive staples, nails, or other linearly driven fasteners. The tool uses a gas spring principle, in which a cylinder filled with compressed gas is used to quickly force a piston through a driving stroke movement, while a driver also drives a fastener into a workpiece. The piston/driver is then moved back to its starting position by use of a rotary-to-linear lifter, and the piston again compresses the gas above the piston, thereby preparing the tool for another driving stroke. The driver has protrusions along its edges that contact the lifter, which lifts the driver during a return stroke. A pivotable latch is controlled to move into either an interfering position or a non-interfering position with respect to the driver protrusions, and acts as a safety device, by preventing the driver from making a full driving stroke at an improper time.

POWERED FASTENER DRIVER

A powered fastener driver including a housing, an inner frame positioned within the housing, and a workpiece contact assembly coupled to the housing and movable from an extended position to a retracted position in response to contact with a workpiece. The workpiece contact assembly includes a biasing element that biases the workpiece contact assembly into the extended position. The workpiece contact assembly is engageable with the inner frame in response to an applied force that moves the workpiece contact assembly beyond the retracted position.

A fastener tool includes a motor, a drive mechanism connected to the motor and adapted to drive a piston, and a cylinder filled with compressed gas. The piston is accommodated in the cylinder and suitable for a reciprocating motion within the cylinder. The drive mechanism includes a blade fixed to the piston, and a gear coupled to the motor. The gear contains a plurality of teeth adapted to engage with a plurality of lugs on the blade such that a rotation of the gear is transformed to a linear movement of the blade. The drive mechanism further includes a disengagement module which within a period of a rotation cycle of the gear, is configured to prevent one of the plurality of teeth from unintentionally engaging with a misaligned one of the lugs.
