Gas spring fastener driver including shutter valve
A fastener driver comprises a drive blade movable from a retracted position to an extended, driven position for driving a fastener into a workpiece and a gas spring mechanism for driving the drive blade from the retracted position to the driven position. The gas spring mechanism includes a drive cylinder and a drive piston attached to the drive blade for movement therewith. The drive piston is acted on by a driving force resulting from a pressure differential created by the gas spring mechanism. The fastener driver also includes an adjustable valve for selectively limiting a flow of gas into the drive cylinder above the drive piston, or a flow of ambient air at atmospheric pressure from the drive cylinder beneath the drive piston, thereby changing the pressure differential acting on the drive piston, as the drive piston and the drive blade move from the retracted position to the extended position.

Pneumatic Linear Fastener Driving Tool
A pneumatic fastener driving tool includes a gas cylinder, and a piston disposed in the cylinder in such a way that a centerline of the piston is coaxial with the cylinder longitudinal axis, and the piston is movable along the cylinder longitudinal axis between ready and driven positions. The tool includes a blade having a blade first end that is connected to the piston, and a blade second end that is configured to contact a fastener during a fastener driving operation. The tool includes a reset mechanism that returns the tool to the ready to fire configuration by translating the piston along the cylinder longitudinal axis to a location in which gas is compressed in the cylinder. The reset mechanism includes a ball screw device that drives the piston toward the ready position via a force that is concentric with the centerline of the piston.
JAM RELEASE AND LIFTER MECHANISM FOR GAS SPRING FASTENER DRIVER
A method of operating a fastener driver comprises initiating a fastener driving operation by moving a driver blade from a retracted position toward a driven position, and detecting that the driver blade has become jammed in an intermediate position between the retracted position and the driven position. The method further includes moving a latch from a locked position, in which a lifter assembly is maintained in an engaged position by the latch for moving the driver blade from the driven position toward the retracted position, to a released position, in which the lifter assembly is movable away from the driver blade. The method further includes driving a motor to rotate a lifter of the lifting assembly, thereby moving the lifter assembly away from the driver blade, then, returning the lifter assembly to the engaged position, and moving the latch from the released position to the locked position.

CLINCH STAPLE MECHANISM
A clinch staple mechanism including a pivoting base configured to be pivotally connected to a pneumatic stapling tool. The pneumatic stapling tool is configured to dispense staples each staple having a crown and a pair of staple legs, wherein the crown is disposed in a crown direction. The clinch staple mechanism further includes a clinch arm pivotally connected to the pivoting base at a proximal end of the clinch arm; and a clinch block disposed on a distal end of the clinch arm, wherein the clinch block is configured to bend the staple legs in a direction perpendicular to the crown direction.
