A cutter apparatus includes a housing and a blade holder coupled to the housing, wherein the housing includes a distal portion (e.g., a blade storage compartment) that is both slidably and pivotally coupled to portions of the housing and configured to serve as a cover for the blade holder. The cutter apparatus can also include a cover release device configured to facilitate repositioning the cover between a locked position at which the cover is secured to the housing and a released position at which at least a portion of the cover is free to pivotally reposition away from the housing providing access to the blade holder.

The invention relates to a utility knife (10) comprising a housing that has a blade assembly (16), having a blade (23) having at least one cutting edge (35), the blade assembly (16) and/or a blade guard being movable relative to the housing between at least one stowed position and at least one operating position, the housing having at least one opening (22, 24).

The special feature consists, inter alia, in that a particle flow cross section of the housing remains substantially constant or increases in the flow direction of the particles from an inlet (36) for the particles (34) into an interior (25) at a front end (18) of the housing to an outlet (37) for the particles (34).

A knife with automatic blade retraction including a housing, a moveable actuating device, a rotatable blade unit, and a retraction element which always applies a retraction force to the blade unit in the direction of the retracted position. The rotatable blade unit can be brought into engagement with the actuating device and is moveable by means of the actuating device from a position retracted in the housing into a position extended from the housing. The blade unit is also rotatable by the action of a cutting force in an extended position from an engagement position in which the blade unit is in engagement with the actuating device into a release position in which the blade unit is not in engagement with the actuating device.

An auto-retract scraper is described herein. The auto-retract scrape comprises a housing, a slider, a blade, a rotating hard stop, and a torsion spring. The rotating hard stop is rotated clockwise forcing the blade forward and out of the housing when the slider is engaged.

A utility knife has a disposable blade cartridge in its handle that has new and used blade compartments. Fresh blades are disposed in the new blade compartment and one end of each is advanced one at a time substantially out of the compartment into operative position by a carrier that is controlled by a push button assembly. When the active blade is to be replaced, it is moved by the carrier into the used blade compartment, and a new blade may then be withdrawn from the new blade compartment into the operative position. The cartridge may be reversed when the one end of all the blades in the new blade compartment are used, placing what was the used blade compartment at the front, and the unused end of each blade may be advanced into the operative position. When all are used, a new cartridge may replace the used cartridge.

A utility knife includes a housing with multiple interior spaces, each for holding a utility blade slidably therein. A U-shaped spring-clip has two ends rotationally fixed with the housing. A catch section of the spring clip traverses a retention slot formed in the housing. The spring clip may be pushed from an inward position into an outward position to allow the utility blade to pass from the interior space out through a slot to exit an end of the housing. When the spring clip is released with a retaining notch of the utility blade aligned with the retention slot, the retaining clip engages the retaining notch to capture the utility blade in a deployed position. Preferably the housing comprises several thin metal plates stacked together and fastened with a plurality of mechanical fasteners.

A handheld razor cutter apparatus for cutting and trimming materials such as screens includes a blade housing coupled to a handle. The handle is coupled to a top plate of the blade housing such that it secures the blade housing in a horizontal position. A bottom plate is selectively engageable with a bottom side of the top plate to secure a razor blade therebetween. The razor blade has an edge encompassed by the perimeter of the bottom plate. The blade housing has a plurality of notches extending through the perimeter. The edge of the razor blade is sharpened on at least a plurality of exposed portions defined by the plurality of notches of the blade housing to perform cuts.

A handheld razor cutter apparatus for cutting and trimming materials such as screens includes a blade housing coupled to a handle. The handle is coupled to a top plate of the blade housing such that it secures the blade housing in a horizontal position. A bottom plate is selectively engageable with a bottom side of the top plate to secure a razor blade therebetween. The razor blade has an edge encompassed by the perimeter of the bottom plate.
