In some examples, a pile cutting device includes a first pile positioning unit, a cutting unit for cutting at least one sheet pile, and a bearing device including a first pile bearing surface. The first pile positioning unit includes an upper rotary plunger that can be pivoted about a pivot axis and moved with respect to a vertical direction, and also includes a first horizontal drive for moving a sheet pile in and/or counter to a horizontal direction. The first pile positioning unit further includes two upper pressing elements that differ from the upper rotary plunger, and that are movable with respect to the vertical direction. A first one of the upper pressing elements is movable in and/or counter to the horizontal direction by the first horizontal drive. A second one of the upper pressing elements is movable in and/or counter to the horizontal direction by a second horizontal drive.

Trimmer

It is an object to provide a trimmer that can trim a fore-edge portion of a bound material except a cover and that can be excellent in productivity and cost. A cover has flap portions adjacent to the fore-edge portion of the bound material, a trimmer includes: a trim cutter that trims the bound material; a blade receiving portion that receives an edge of the trim cutter; a base portion and a pressure portion that nip and position the bound material; and a pair of guide portions arranged for movement in a direction close to or away from the bound material, wherein the guide portions are inserted between the book block and the cover so as to peel the cover together with the flap portions up when the fore-edge portion of the bound material is trimmed by the trim cutter.

Adjustable break bundle breaker

A bundle breaker has upstream and downstream breaking supports and first and second platens located above the breaking supports that are configured to be raised and lowered by actuators to selectively clamp a log between the platens and the breaking supports. A third actuator applies a shifting force to the downstream breaking support to shift an input end of the downstream breaking support relative to an output end of the upstream breaking support to break a second portion of the log from a first portion of the log. A controller controls the first actuator and the second actuator and the third actuator. Also, the controller is configured to stop or reduce the application of the shifting force in response to a determination that the second portion of the log has broken off the first portion of the log.

A transporter transports the printed product from a first cutting location, at which the first cutting operation for a first formatting edge of the printed product takes place, to a second cutting location, at which a second one of the cutting operations for a second formatting edge takes place, and to a third cutting location, at which a third one of the cutting operations for a third formatting edge is carried out. The transport of the printed product from one cutting location to the next is carried out along a guide section. The transporter includes a gripper with which the printed product is gripped by the spine and conveyable from one cutting location to the next in a suspended manner.

Single transfer insert placement method and apparatus with cross-direction insert placement control

An apparatus and method is provided for single transfer insert placement. The apparatus receives continuous web material and cuts a discrete section or pad from the web. The pad is then supported on a single transfer surface. The single transfer surface then may spin the supported pad to a desired angle and provide the pad to a receiving surface at a desired interval. The web material can be cut to different insert lengths and the placement location varied.
