OSTOMY POUCHES
An ostomy pouch has a pair of opposed side walls, one of the side walls defines a stoma-receiving opening for, in use, receiving a part of a stoma into the ostomy pouch, one or both of the side walls being formed of a polymeric film at least partially coated on an internal surface thereof with hydrophobic particles, the hydrophobic particles includes: a metal oxide core; and a hydrocarbon chain having from 2 to 40 carbon atoms, wherein the hydrocarbon chain is chemically bound to the metal oxide core.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING MEDICAL DEVICE
An objective of the present invention is to provide a method for easily manufacturing a hydrophilized medical device of superior durability. In order to achieve the abovementioned objective, a method for manufacturing a medical device according to the present invention comprises a step for heating an aqueous package fluid, wherein, in the heating step, the aqueous package fluid contains one or more types of hydrophilic polymer, heating is performed with a substrate of the medical device at least partially is contact with the aqueous package fluid, and the following conditions (a) through (c) are all met. (a) The hydrophilic polymer is a (meth)acrylamide (co)polymer comprising two substituents comprising two or more carbon atoms on a nitrogen atom. (b) The mass % concentration of the hydrophilic polymer in the aqueous package fluid is in a range of 0.0001-30 mass %. (c) The pH of the aqueous package fluid after the heating step is in a range of 6.1-8.0.
Coated Urinary Catheter or Ureteral Stent and Method
A coated urinary catheter or urinary stent device includes a urinary catheter or stent which, in a deployed position, includes or defines a protective surface area and a protected surface area and a coating upon at least a portion of the protective surface area. The coating includes a lubricant and an antimicrobial and/or pH buffering material. The device is configured such that, upon application of negative pressure to the catheter or stent, tissue of a urinary tract of a patient conforms or collapses onto the protective surface area and is thereby prevented or inhibited from occluding one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations of the catheter or stent.

The invention concerns coating composition comprising hydrophobic polymer for use as a photoreactive basecoat for a medical device or implant comprising a polymer made from monomers comprising: (a) 1 to 12 mol % of at least one photoactive monomer that is a hydrogen atom abstracter and (b) 99 to 88 mol % of one or more of acrylamides, methacrylamides, acrylates, methacrylates, and N-vinylpyrrolidone; wherein the polymer has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of less than 40° C.
INERTIZATION OF MATERIAL SURFACES BY FUNCTIONALIZED PERFLUORINATED MOLECULES
A method for rendering material surfaces inert is provided. Exemplary surfaces include ceramic, metal or plastic surfaces. The method is accomplished with functionalized perfluorinated compounds for the formation of hyperhydrophobic structures on the surfaces to create inert surfaces. The inert surfaces produced or can be produced in this way have an extremely low surface energy, are resistant to deposits of substances or cells and have a very low coefficient of friction. Practical uses of the inert surfaces are also provided.
