Provided are rotary dies that can cut amorphous materials while having suppressed wear. The rotary dies are adapted to cut a target, and include an anvil roller, a die cutter, a first elastic portion, and a second elastic portion. The anvil roller rotates while supporting the target. The die cutter has a projecting edge for cutting the target and is configured to rotate. The first elastic portion is arranged on the outer peripheral surface of the anvil roller, and elastically deforms upon contacting the rear surface of the target when the target is cut. The second elastic portion is arranged on the outer peripheral surface of the die cutter, and elastically deforms upon contacting the front surface of the target when the target is cut. The hardness of the first elastic portion is greater than that of the second elastic portion.

The present invention relates to a method for making an anvil roll, the method comprising the steps of: providing a cylindrically-shaped body consisting of a first material, wherein the first material is selected from the group consisting of: an iron alloy, an aluminum alloy, and a titanium alloy, and wherein the body comprises an outer circumferential surface; adding one or more metallic materials in the form of powder; and fusing, by applying power from a laser source, the one or more metallic materials to the outer circumferential surface of the body to form a plurality of protrusions having a conical or frustro-conical shape comprising tapering sides, from a broader base at the outer circumferential surface tapering outwardly towards a narrower tip or having a cylindrical shape.

An anvil is configured to operatively engage with a tooling agent. The anvil includes an outer surface, an opposing surface opposite the outer surface and an inner surface. One or more spring elements are disposed between the opposing surface and the inner surface. The springs provide a compliance to the anvil.

The present disclosure relates to adjusting and maintaining a position of a cutting surface used to create lines of weakness for rolled products. A perforating apparatus includes a housing rotatably supported by a frame, wherein the housing is adapted to rotate about a first axis. A support member including a first cutting surface is rotatably supported by the housing, wherein the support member is adapted to rotate about a second axis offset from the first axis. A roll including a second cutting surface is positioned adjacent the support member, wherein the roll is adapted to rotate about a third axis. The second cutting surface is adapted to contact the first cutting surface as the roll rotates about the third axis. The perforating apparatus is configured such that the functions of adjusting the position of the first cutting surface and holding the first cutting surface in a fixed position are separate.
