METHOD OF PERFORATING A NONLINEAR LINE OF WEAKNESS

A method for perforating a web with a perforating apparatus includes: rotating a cylinder about a longitudinal cylinder axis, wherein the cylinder comprises at least one shaped blade; operatively engaging a moveable support with the cylinder; positioning an anvil disposed on the support so as to cooperate in contacting relationship with the shaped blade, wherein at least one of the blade and the anvil comprise a plurality of teeth, and wherein adjacent teeth are separated by a recessed portion; feeding a web between the cylinder and the support; and perforating the web as the anvil cooperates in contacting relationship with the shaped blade disposed on the rotating cylinder.

Method for Perforating a Nonlinear Line of Weakness

A method for providing a nonlinear line of weakness on a web material including providing: a base, a support, a blade, and a driving means. The base may comprise at least one counter component having a length (L.sub.CC) where the counter component comprises a nonlinear shape having a shape width (W). The support may be operatively engaged with the base. The blade may have a length (L.sub.B) and may be disposed on the support so as to either contact or to come in close proximity with the counter component. At least one of the counter component and the blade may have a nonlinear shape. The driving means may be associated with one of the support or the base to reciprocally shift the one of the support or the base with respect to the other of the base or the support for a distance (D) in a shifting direction.

Apparatus for perforating a web material

A perforating apparatus may have a first roll comprising a first design and a second roll comprising a second design, each roll being in close proximity with a support member and each roll comprising a blade or an anvil. A web material may travel a first path between the first roll and the support member or, alternatively, may travel a second path between the second roll and the support member.
