The invention relates to a method for producing plate-shaped workpieces (15) preferably consisting at least in parts of wood, a wood material, plastic, composite material and/or mixed material or the like, said method comprising the steps of: providing a plate-shaped base workpiece (10), introducing at least one groove (11) into a surface (12) of the base workpiece (10), at least one design element (13) and at least one reference element (16) being formed when introducing the groove (11), aligning the base workpiece (10) and/or a processing device in dependence on the at least one reference element (16) formed, and dividing the base workpiece (10) into at least two plate-shaped workpieces (15).
