PORTABLE HAND PUMP FOR EVACUATION OF FLUIDS
20180256789 · 2018-09-13 ·

A manually operable pump for the effective removal of fluids to include blood, blood clots, fluid, and air from a body cavity of a subject is provided. The manually operable pump is adapted to be connect to a range of fluid conduits and is equipped with one-way valves that effectively permit flow of fluid through the pump in only one direction. The sensitivity of the one-way valves is such that when properly positioned, fluid can flow through the valves and out of the pump without manual compression of the pump and with the aid of gravity power alone.

An improved method and device are provided for forming and/or maintaining a percutaneous access pathway. The device generally comprises at least one of three type of components: access pathway, insertion device, and attachment device. In one embodiment, the device is used to form and/or maintain a percutaneous access pathway into the pleural cavity (i.e. tube thoracostomy). The provided assembly substantially reduces the possibility of iatrogenic infection while accessing and/or re-accessing a body space.

MOTION-ASSISTED SYSTEMS, DEVICES AND METHODS FOR MINIMIZING OBSTRUCTION OF MEDICAL DEVICES
20180185557 · 2018-07-05 ·

A device for minimizing obstruction in a medical device that carries fluids includes a housing defining a channel configured to receive and secure a section of the medical device such that the section of the medical device extends coaxially with a central longitudinal axis of the channel. The device also includes components supported in the housing, including a motor, wherein the components are configured to be operated to impart motion to the housing and the attached medical device. The motion is configured to produce oscillatory motion of a frequency sufficient to concentrate shear stresses in a fluid boundary layer adjacent an inner wall of the medical device. The housing and the components supported in the housing are configured and arranged so that a device center of mass lies along or near the longitudinal axis of the channel.

An implantable device for improving the pump function of the heart of a human patient by applying an external force on a first position of the heart muscle following the heart's contractions. The implantable device comprising a first pump device adapted to assist the pump function of the heart. The pump device comprises a first reservoir having a first volume and adapted to varying said first volume, a second reservoir having a second volume and adapted to varying said second volume, a fluid connection adapted to fluidly connect said first reservoir with said second reservoir, such that fluid can flow between said first reservoir and said second reservoir. The reservoir, said second reservoir and said fluid connection form a fully implantable pump device adapted to maintain a fluid in a closed system, when in operation and wherein said fully implantable pump device is adapted to transfer force by transferring fluid from said first reservoir to said second reservoir to directly or indirectly apply an external force on the first position of the heart muscle, following the heart's contractions, for improving the pump function of the heart, when said device is implanted. The implantable device further comprises a sensor sensing muscle contractions of the heart.
