CONTROLLING A THERMAL VALVE FOR MELTING OF POLYMERS
A method and system for controlling a level of molten material received in a reservoir of a melt system from a melt grid is disclosed. The method includes receiving a first level of the molten material from a sensor in the reservoir at a first time, receiving a second level of the molten material from the sensor at a second time subsequent to the first time, and comparing the second level of the molten material to a desired operating level to determine a difference between the second level and the desired operating level. The method also includes determining a temperature set point for the melt grid based on at least the difference between the second level and the desired operating level, and adjusting an operating temperature of the melt grid to match the temperature set point.

A melting unit melts a solid material into a molten material. The melt unit includes a reservoir, a hopper, and a melt grid disposed between the hopper and the reservoir. The melt grid heats the solid material into the molten material such that the molten material flows from the hopper to the reservoir. The melt unit includes a plurality of guide members, where the molten material flows through plurality of flow channels defined by the melt grid and along the plurality of guide members as the molten material flows from the hopper to the reservoir.

A device and method for dispensing a flowable medium which is an adhesive, a hot glue or a hot melt adhesive. The device has a housing with an interior space and a rod mounted in the housing, wherein the rod is movable by means of an actuator between a first end position and a second end position in an axial direction. The device comprises a diaphragm, wherein the rod passes through the diaphragm, wherein the diaphragm is mounted in a sealed manner in the housing radially on the outside and is mounted in a sealed manner in the rod radially on the inside, wherein the diaphragm divides the interior space into a first cavity and a second cavity and separates the first cavity from the second cavity in a fluid tight manner, and wherein the first cavity serves to hold the flowable medium. The device has at least one channel which opens into the first cavity and through which the flowable medium can flow into the first cavity, and a dispensing opening into the first cavity for dispensing the flowable medium, wherein the rod has a sealing section, and wherein the sealing section closes the dispensing opening in the first end position and is arranged at a distance from the dispensing opening in the second end position. A pressure medium acting on the diaphragm is arranged in the second cavity.
