It is known in the art to use an apparatus to enhance the visual appearance of the veins and arteries in a patient to facilitate insertion of needles into those veins and arteries. This application discloses a number of inventions that add additional data collection and presentation capabilities to a handheld vein enhancement apparatus and a set of processes for the collection of blood and the delivery of IV medicines that use the handheld device to mediate the process.

This application relates to an apparatus for generating refrigeration. The apparatus may include a cooling collector configured to collect cooling energy at a predetermined cooling collection temperature. The apparatus may also include a cooler thermally coupled to the cooling collector so as to cool the cooling collector. The apparatus may further include a refrigeration gate configured to block and release the collected cooling energy. The refrigeration gate may refrigerate a target region by releasing the collected cooling energy.

A drug delivery device assembly is provided, including an injector housing, a needle assembly, a drive assembly, and a reflective surface. The injector housing may include a body with a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal axis extending between the proximal end and the distal end, and at least one window. The needle assembly is at least partially disposed within the body and may include a syringe barrel containing a medicament and a needle or a cannula, wherein at least a portion of the syringe barrel positioned such as to be visible through the at least one window. The drive assembly is at least partially disposed within the body and operably coupled with the needle assembly to urge the medicament through the needle or cannula during an injection sequence. The reflective surface is positioned with respect to the window such as to increase visibility of the syringe barrel.

The disclosure concerns a device for alleviating injection pain, the device can have an attachment portion for attachment to a medicament delivery device, a flexible arm extending from a first end attached to the attachment portion to a second end distal from the attachment portion, and a plurality of protrusions attached to the flexible arm, wherein the device is a medicament delivery device component or a medicament delivery device add-on. A medicament delivery device comprising such a device and corresponding methods are also described.

The disclosure concerns a device for alleviating injection pain, the device can have an attachment portion for attachment to a medicament delivery device, a flexible arm extending from a first end attached to the attachment portion to a second end distal from the attachment portion, and a plurality of protrusions attached to the flexible arm, wherein the device is a medicament delivery device component or a medicament delivery device add-on. A dual chambered syringe includes: an inner barrel defining a first inner chamber, the inner barrel having an apertured stopper at its distal end, the inner barrel being open at its proximal end; a shaft adapted to fit within the inner barrel, the shaft having a distal end which is engageable with the aperture of the stopper; a device for controlling engaging and disengaging of the distal end of the shaft with the aperture of the stopper; an outer barrel concentric with the inner barrel defining a second inner chamber, the outer barrel having a distal end for receiving and dispensing fluids and a proximal end into which the distal end of the inner barrel is insertable into the second inner chamber; the apertured stopper engages the second inner chamber of the outer barrel and selectively prevents or permits the passage of fluids between the outer barrel second chamber and the inner barrel first chamber; the inner barrel having an engageable surface on its outside surface; and, the outer barrel having operatively associated therewith an engaging device for selective engagement and disengagement with the engageable surface on the inner barrel.

In some examples, a tissue compression device includes a base including a major surface configured to engage a dorsal surface of a hand of a patient, a flexible backing adjustably mechanically connected to the base and configured to engage a palmar surface of the hand when the dorsal surface of the hand is engaged with the base, and an expandable member mechanically connected to the flexible backing. The expandable member is configured to be positioned over an ulnar region of the patient when the palmar surface of the hand is engaged with the flexible backing and the dorsal surface of the hand is engaged with the base, such that inflation of the expandable member may apply pressure to tissue near the ulnar artery of the patient.

A method and an apparatus for applying an anesthetic that includes a receptacle having an upper end, a substantially hollow interior, a lower end having a tube or nozzle extending therefrom, and an attachment for attaching to the barrel of a syringe or vice versa. The receptacle receives a container or canister containing an endothermic gas or vapor (propellant) that rapidly absorbs heat when released to the atmosphere. A depressible actuating member or trigger propels the gas or vapor through an outlet nozzle that is oriented to project a stream of gas or vapor along a delivery axis that intersects a delivery axis of the needle, therefore, the gas or vapor can be successively delivered to an injection site with minimal repositioning of the housing.
