Brain cooling method and portable device
A noninvasive, brain cooling method and device for cerebral cooling via a patient's nasopharyngeal cavity, is described. Thermal conductive nasal prongs are inserted into a nasal cavity and are cooled by thermoelectric cooling elements. An outward air driving fan inside the device drives a cold air current through the nasal and oral cavities. Heat transfer between the cold air and the surface of the nasal cavity cools the nasal cavity, which in turn, cools a patient's brain. Real-time temperature sensing data provides feedback for closed-loop cooling control.
Centralized control apparatus and method of controlling one or more controlled apparatuses including medical device
A system controller performs collective setting processing which collectively performs setting with respect to one or more controlled devices including a medical device. The system controller judges a degree of error relating to a state of the controlled device which occurred when the collective setting processing is performed. The system controller displays an error removing screen for removing an occurred error based on a judgement result of the degree of error. A setting instruction operation is an operation which selects a desired scene from a plurality of scenes which are set in advance corresponding to a progress of a surgery. The degree of error is associated with the plurality of scenes, and the system controller judges the degree of the occurred error based on the scene which is underway of the surgery.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EVALUATING THE INTEGRITY OF A UTERINE CAVITY
Methods, systems and devices for evaluating the integrity of a uterine cavity. A method comprises introducing transcervically a probe into a patient's uterine cavity, providing a flow of a fluid (e.g., CO.sub.2) through the probe into the uterine cavity and monitoring the rate of the flow to characterize the uterine cavity as perforated or non-perforated based on a change in the flow rate.
Method and Device for Controlling the Temperature of the Gas Flow in Medical Devices
Disclosed are methods for measuring and controlling the gas temperature in medical procedures. In embodiments of the disclosed methods a gas is supplied to a patient using a gas supply device and a supply line. A heating system heats the gas using a heating wire prior to the gas being provided to the patient. A controller electrically controls the heating power of the heating wire based on an estimated value of a temperature at an exit of the heating system obtained from a mathematical estimation system, wherein a resistance of the heating wire is an input variable of the mathematical estimation system.
Method and Device for Intraoperative Determination of Drag Coefficient Values of Different Medical Instruments in the Use of a Medical Fluid Pump
Disclosed is a method for determining and controlling the internal body pressure during a medical procedure that includes controlling the output of a fluid pump by means of an estimated pressure value, wherein resistance coefficients ζ.sub.1 and ζ.sub.2 of a medical instrument required for the estimation of the pressure value are determined by evaluating a pressure behavior during pump start up.
PORTABLE LAPAROSCOPE SYSTEM
A portable laparoscope is disclosed. In implementations, the portable laparoscope includes a housing and an elongated tube coupled to the housing. A lighting source and a camera are disposed proximate to an end of the elongated tube opposite the housing. The camera is configured to capture an image in a viewing area that is illuminated by light provided by the lighting source. The portable laparoscope includes an image display apparatus configured to display the images acquired by the camera and/or to transmit the images to a remote display device. The housing may be configured to hold and position an insufflator.
MULTI-MODAL SURGICAL GAS CIRCULATION SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING A NETWORK OF GAS SEALED ACCESS DEVICES
A system for performing an endoscopic surgical procedure in a surgical cavity is disclosed which includes a primary gas circulation device housing a central processor and a primary pump, the primary pump controlled by the central processor and configured to deliver a flow of pressurized gas to a primary gas delivery lumen and to receive gas from a primary gas return lumen, and a plurality of subordinate gas circulation devices each housing a respective subordinate pump configured to deliver a flow of pressurized gas to a respective subordinate gas delivery lumen and to receive gas from a respective subordinate gas return lumen, wherein the subordinate pump in each subordinate gas circulation device is in networked communication with and controlled by the central processor of the primary gas circulation device.
CONTROL ALGORITHM ADJUSTMENT FOR A SURGICAL STAPLING ASSEMBLY BASED ON SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
A method of adjusting a staple parameter of a surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. The method includes determining, by a control circuit of the surgical stapling instrument, a first stroke length for a first staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a first row of staples of a circular stapling head assembly of the surgical stapling instrument; detecting, by the control circuit, a malformed staple in the first row of staples; adjusting, by the control circuit, the staple parameter, based on the detection of the malformed staple; and determining, by the control circuit, a second stroke length for a second staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a second row of staples of the circular stapling head assembly.
GAS FEEDING APPARATUS, SUPPLY METHOD AND GAS FEEDING SYSTEM
A gas feeding apparatus configured to supply the gas to a lumen of a patient through a gas feeding conduit provided in an endoscope, the gas feeding apparatus including: a flow rate sensor configured to measure a flow rate of the gas in the gas feeding conduit; and a control circuit configured to time-sequentially calculate an integrated amount of the gas fed to the lumen in a period from a first timing to a second timing, the first timing being a timing when the gas starts to be fed from the gas feeding conduit to the lumen by an operation of a gas feeding button of the endoscope, the second timing being different from the first timing. The control circuit controls a notification unit to activate an alarm, when the integrated amount of the gas reaches the first threshold.
Electrically conductive reducer device, related systems, and related methods
A reducer device for insertion into a surgical cannula includes a tubular member having a proximal opening and a distal opening and an electrically conductive component configured and positioned to provide an electrically conductive path from an interior of the tubular member to an exterior of the tubular member. The electrically conductive path is localized along an axial length of the tubular member. A method of configuring a surgical device includes positioning a surgical cannula within an incision of a patient's body wall, positioning a reducer device within the surgical cannula, and positioning a surgical instrument within the reducer device. Positioning the surgical instrument within the reducer device includes forming an electrically conductive pathway between the surgical cannula and the surgical instrument.
