SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR APPLYING MOLDABLE MATERIAL TO A PIPE
20170355114 · 2017-12-14 ·

A molding system for applying moldable material to a pipe. An elongate mold has at least one elongate mold member movable relative another elongate mold member between open and closed positions. In the closed position, the mold may define an elongate vent between the mold members that extends along the longitudinal axis of the mold. Air in the mold cavity displaced by moldable material received into the mold cavity vents through the elongate vent along the longitudinal axis of the mold. The mold can include a positioner that positions the mold members in the closed position while the mold is filled with the moldable material. The positioner also allows movement of the first mold member toward the open position to partially open the mold as the moldable material cures to reduce forces imparted upon the mold due to expansion of the moldable material during curing.

Method of protecting a layered coating on a discrete pipe joint for subsea use

A method of protecting a layered coating on a length of pipe for subsea use includes applying an edge finisher to the coating to encase an edge of the coating by fusing the edge finisher with the coating or by molding the edge finisher at an edge of the coating. Where the coating and the edge finisher are of thermoplastics such as PP, fusing can be achieved by injection molding the edge finisher or by welding a discrete edge finisher component to the edge of the coating. Mirror welding may be employed for this purpose, with a hot plate being interposed between the edge of the coating and the edge finisher.

Composite connectors and methods of manufacturing the same

A method of manufacturing a composite connector for a fluid transfer conduit is provided which comprises applying continuous fibre reinforcement, oriented at least partially circumferentially and pre-impregnated with a thermoplastic polymer to a tubular mould portion which extends substantially parallel to a central axis C; applying at least one further mould portion to form a complete mould in which the continuous fibre reinforcement is enclosed and injecting a thermoplastic polymer into the mould to form a connector with a tubular hub portion and a flange portion which extends from the hub portion at an angle to the central axis C. The tubular hub portion comprises a tubular seal section with an inner layer and an outer wherein the inner layer comprises the continuous fibre reinforcement and the outer layer comprises the injected thermoplastic polymer.

OVERMOLDED INSERTS AND METHODS FOR FORMING THE SAME

Overmolded inserts and methods for forming the same The present disclosure is directed to overmolded inserts (100) with reduced internal residual stress and corresponding methods for forming the overmolded inserts. The overmolded inserts have a polymer housing; metal or metal allow tapered insert (104, 302) and a compression element (106, 304) disposed between the housing and the distal end of the tapered insert. During formation, the tapered insert and compression element are placed within a mold. The polymer housing material is heated and filled into the mold. As the polymer housing cools, the compression element is compressed between the polymer housing and the tapered insert. The overmolded inserts formed have reduced internal residual stress relative to a corresponding insert formed from non-tapered insert.

Implantable lead affixation structure for nerve stimulation to alleviate bladder dysfunction and other indication

Anchoring devices and methods for affixing an implanted lead of a neurostimulation system at a target location in a patient are provided herein. Such anchoring devices includes a helical body having a plurality of tines extending laterally outward from the lead when deployed that engage tissue to inhibit axial movement of the implanted lead. The plurality of tines are biased towards the laterally extended deployed configuration and fold inward towards the lead to a delivery configuration to facilitate delivery of the lead through a sheath. The tines may be angled in a proximal direction or in both proximal and distal directions and may include various features to assist in visualization and delivery of the lead. The anchor may be formed according to various methods, including laser cutting of a tubular section along with heat or reflow to set the material with the anchor in the deployed configuration and injection molding.

Conduit body cover screw retention

An improved mechanism for retaining screws for a conduit body cover is disclosed. The screws are retained by a layer of PVC lining the inner surface of holes in the cover.
