Tissue substitute multilayer matrix and uses thereof
Compositions-of-matter comprising a matrix made of one or more, preferably two or more elastic layers and one or more viscoelastic layer are disclosed. The compositions-of-matter are characterized by high water-impermeability and optionally by self-recovery. Processes of preparing the compositions-of-matter and uses thereof as tissue substitutes or for repairing damaged tissues are also disclosed.
Methods of making drug loaded microfiber sutures for ophthalmic application
Ophthalmic suture materials made from biocompatible and biodegradable polymers with high tensile strength for use in drug delivery, methods of making them, and method of using them for ocular surgery and repair have been developed. The suture materials are made from a combination of a biodegradable, biocompatible polymer and a hydrophilic biocompatible polymer. In a preferred embodiment the suture materials are made from a poly(hydroxyl acid) such as poly(1-lactic acid) and a polyalkylene oxide such as poly(ethylene glycol) or a polyalkylene oxide block copolymer. The sutures entrap (e.g., encapsulate) one or more therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic agents and provide prolonged release over a period of at least a week, preferably a month.
Electromagnetic extrusion
A system and method for an improved material flow through an extrusion machine by altering the material properties in a magnetic field are provided. The electromagnetic extrusion system includes a ram that is moved into a chamber containing an extrusion material to force the extrusion material out of an opening defined, at least in part, by a die to create an extrusion with a cross-sectional shape corresponding to the predetermined shape of the opening. An electromagnetic winding of electrically conductive material is embedded within a tool retainer block surrounding the container and is helically wound about the chamber and carries a DC electrical current to generate a magnetic field having a magnetic flux density of at least 2 Tesla within the extrusion material to dissipate dislocation defect structures in the extrusion material being extruded via the magnetoplasticity effect. The magnetic field therefore provides for reduced flow stress on the tooling.
Single and twin screw extruders with ultrasound horns for decrosslinking and devulcanization
Processes for decrosslinking crosslinked plastic and devulcanizing vulcanized rubber include advancing such materials through single screw or twin screw extruders including special ultrasonic treatment zones wherein threadless shaft (single screw) or shafts (twin screw) rotate under an ultrasonic horn having a distal end aligned with the shaft or shafts and being shaped complimentary thereto. Special arcuate (single screw) or double-arcuate ultrasonic treatment flow paths confine the materials to flow under the horn where the material is subjected to ultrasonic waves to decrosslink the material, in the case of crosslinked plastic, or devulcanize the material, in the case of vulcanized rubber, with the extrudate leaving the die as a continuous stream or rope as is typical of virgin plastic or rubber.
SPINNERETS AND SPINNERET ARRAYS FOR ELECTROSPINNING AND ELECTROSPINNING MACHINES
This disclosure relates to air-assisted spinnerets and spinneret arrays for electrospinning. In some embodiments, the air-assisted spinnerets and spinneret arrays are incorporated in electrospinning systems and/or electrospinning machines. Methods of making and using the same are also described herein.
Stable electrospinning composition for stable Nano-/submicrostructure production and preparation method thereof
The present invention discloses an electrospinning composition comprising a catalyst and a functionalized polymer or copolymer bearing one or more epoxy ring. The mixture further comprises an anhydride, preferably phthalic anhydride as a cross-linking agent. Wherein a molar ratio of epoxy to anhydride in the electrospinning composition is within the range of 1:1 to 50:1. The present invention further discloses a preparation method of the electrospinning composition and an electrospun nano-/submicrostructures prepared using the method and composite material comprising the electrospun nano-/submicrostructures.
MANUFACTURING METHOD OF HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE AND TRANSFER PALLET
A manufacturing method of a honeycomb structure, including a vertical extrusion process, wherein the vertical extrusion process includes: an extrusion step of extruding the molding compound in the vertically downward direction from an extrusion die attached to an extruder; a honeycomb formed body receiving step in which a transfer pallet is placed at a position near the extrusion die, and a honeycomb formed body formed by continuously extruding the molding compound in the extrusion step is received and supported from below by the transfer pallet; and a pallet lowering step of lowering the transfer pallet while receiving and supporting the honeycomb formed body in synchronization with an extrusion speed of the molding compound from the extrusion die, and the transfer pallet is constituted of a laminate structure including: a pallet substrate; and a tabular mesh plate.
Nanofiber manufacturing device and nanofiber manufacturing method
According to the embodiment, a nanofiber manufacturing device that includes an ejector and a power generator is provided. The ejector is capable of ejecting a solution from a head portion toward a target. The power generator generates a potential difference between the head portion and the target. The head portion includes a first guide having a first surface and a second guide having a second surface, the first surface and the second surface making a gap, the gap being capable of maintaining the solution. A tip of at least one of the first guide and the second guide includes a maintain portion provided so as to be capable of maintaining the solution.
POLYMER MATERIAL COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE DIFFERENT DOPING ELEMENT, USES AND PRODUCTION METHOD
A polymer material comprises one or more different doping elements. The or at least one of the different doping elements at least partially absorbs an electromagnetic radiation emitted by a human or animal body and at least partially emits an electromagnetic radiation in an infrared range, preferably in an infrared C range. A textile material comprises the polymer material according to the invention. The invention further relates to medical and non-medical uses of the polymer material according to the invention and to a manufacturing method of the polymer material according to the invention.
