Tray-shaped article having smooth edges and amenable to multiple film sealing methods
The disclosure relates to forming shaped thermoplastic articles having smooth peripheries. Many thermoplastic articles have sharp edges formed upon molding or cutting the article from a feedstock sheet. Such sharp edges can damage thin plastic films or flesh which they contact, and smoothing the edges is desirable. Described herein are methods of forming a smooth periphery for such sharp-edged articles by rolling over the sharp edge. The smoothing operation is performed by forming a deflectable flange including a bend region separated from the potentially sharp peripheral edge by a spacer, deflecting a portion of the deflectable flange, and softening at least one bent portion of the deflectable flange to yield a smooth periphery upon cooling.
Forming apparatus and method and object thus made
A method for making objects by forming a thermoformable sheet material includes forming the objects by interaction of a die assembly and a forming assembly. The method further includes, compressing and crushing a first portion of the sheet material by a crushing punch device before forming the objects and maintaining the first portion crushed during the forming operation to reduce the thickness thereof and to orientate chains of molecules that compose a structure of the sheet material at the first portion, in order to weaken the structure and the first portion. The first portion is thus easily perforable, tearable and breakable.
Battery Cell Stack, Method of Manufacturing the Same, and Alignment Mark Forming Apparatus for Forming Alignment Mark at the Battery Cell Stack
The present invention relates to a battery cell stack in which a plurality of pouch-shaped battery cells is stacked. An alignment mark is formed at the bottom of a receiving portion configured to receive an electrode assembly in each of the plurality of pouch-shaped battery cells. The plurality of pouch-shaped battery cells is stacked such that the alignment marks individually formed at the pouch-shaped battery cells completely overlap each other in a stacking direction, and the alignment mark is a reference for measuring the dimensions of the pouch-shaped battery cells. Consequently, it is possible to manufacture a battery cell stack in which the plurality of pouch-shaped battery cells is accurately aligned with each other in the stacking direction.
Ram-based Methods for Forming Thermoplastic Article Having Smooth Edges
The disclosure relates to forming shaped thermoplastic articles having smooth peripheries. The deflection can include curling the spacer at or near the peripheral edge.
Formed thermoplastic article having a peelable surface and smooth edges
The disclosure relates to forming shaped thermoplastic articles having smooth peripheries. The smoothing operation is performed by forming a deflectable flange including a bend region separated from the potentially sharp peripheral edge by a spacer, deflecting a portion of the deflectable flange, and softening at least one bent portion of the deflectable flange to yield a smooth periphery upon cooling. A liner sheet may be attached to the feedstock sheet prior to, during, or after forming and can be peelable therefrom.

ARTICLE OF FOOTWEAR WITH FIRST AND SECOND OUTSOLE COMPONENTS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING AN ARTICLE OF FOOTWEAR
A sole structure for an article of footwear comprises a midsole including a polymeric bladder element enclosing a fluid-filled interior cavity, a first outsole component secured to a bottom surface and to a side surface of the polymeric bladder element, and a second outsole component. The first outsole component includes a first base, and a wall integral with the first base. The second outsole component includes a second base secured to the first base, and a wall integral with the second base and secured to the outer surface of the wall of the first outsole component. A method of manufacturing the article of footwear includes thermoforming the bladder element and the first outsole component, and securing the second outsole component to the first outsole component.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ROLL FORMING THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITES
An apparatus for roll forming thermoplastic composites comprises a plurality of thermoplastic composite material spools, a plurality of thermoplastic composite material rollers, a plurality of sheet metal spools, a plurality of welding rollers, an oven, a forming roller, a pair of pinch rollers. The thermoplastic composite material spools retain plies of thermoplastic composite material. The plies flow through the thermoplastic composite material rollers to form a layup. The sheet metal spools retain metal sheets. The metal sheets and the layup flow through the welding rollers to form a metal composite material laminate. The oven heats the metal composite material laminate. The forming roller imparts a curvature to the metal composite material laminate. The pinch rollers receive the metal composite material laminate from the forming roller, pull the metal composite material laminate, and output the metal composite material laminate in a heated and compressed state.
Apparatus and method of manufacturing display apparatus
An apparatus for and a method of manufacturing a display apparatus are provided. The apparatus includes a first mold configured to accommodate a window; a second mold configured to accommodate a panel member and to bond the window and the panel member to each other; and a guide roller on the first mold. The second mold faces the first mold and has a variable shape. The guide roller is rotatable and is configured to maintain tension in the panel member as the window and the panel member are bonded to each other.
