APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ADVANCING CATHETERS OR OTHER MEDICAL DEVICES THROUGH A LUMEN

Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed that help deliver catheters or other medical devices to locations within a patient's body. The device includes a transporter catheter having a proximal end and a distal end, at least a first balloon located at the distal end, substantially at a tip of the transporter catheter, and at least a second balloon located between the distal end and the proximal end of the transporter catheter. The first balloon is an orienting balloon and the second balloon is an anchor balloon. The transporter catheter may include a single lumen or more than one lumen. The transporter catheter may include a shaft including an inner layer and an outer layer, the inner layer may be made of a material more flexible than the material of the outer layer. The outer layer may also include a braided-wire assembly, said braided-wire assembly being formed by braiding a plurality of flat wires or circular wires. The braided-wire assembly may wrap around the inner layer. The transporter catheter may include a shaft that may include a plurality of segments of varying degrees of hardness. The degree of hardness of the segment of the shaft of the transporter catheter located between the first balloon and the second balloon may be less than the degree of hardness of the segment of the shaft between the second balloon and the proximal end of the catheter.

Internal balloon sheath
11857743 · 2024-01-02 · ·

A device including a sheath for insertion through an arteriotomy of a patient. The sheath comprises a tubular sheath body having a longitudinal axis, an open proximal end, an open distal end, an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface defining a lumen between the proximal and distal ends for passage of a catheter device. The sheath also comprises an inflatable balloon disposed within the lumen. The inflatable balloon is configured to occupy a longitudinal space in the lumen between the inner surface of the sheath body and the catheter device when the catheter device is disposed within the sheath and the inflatable balloon is inflated, and fluidically seal the lumen.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR VARIABLE STIFFNESS TETHERS

Described herein are devices and methods for guide elements configured with variable stiffness, with one or more flexible portions and one or more stiff portions. The flexible portion is be used as a tensioning element of a cinchable implant to tighten or compress tissues while the stiff portion is used to facilitate the insertion or withdrawal of portions of the implant or instruments acting on the implant. The guide element is further configured to be separated or severed between the flexible and stiff portions so that a flexible portion is left within the body as part of the implant, while the stiff portion is withdrawn from the body after implantation is completed.

Urinary Catheter with Guide Wire
20210001080 · 2021-01-07 ·

A urinary catheter is readily removed and replaced with a second urinary catheter without introducing foreign matter or contaminants into the bladder. The first urinary catheter includes an extra lumen that houses a sheath, which sheath seals the extra lumen from introduction of fluids. The sheath seals an opening hole at or near the tip of the catheter. After the sheath is extracted from the catheter, a guidewire is threaded through the extra lumen and into the patient's bladder. The first urinary catheter is withdrawn from the patient, leaving the guidewire in the patient. A second urinary catheter is inserted into the patient over the guidewire, with the guidewire present in the urine lumen of the second urinary catheter. The guidewire then is extracted from the patient. The second urinary catheter may also have an extra lumen and a sheath with a break-away seal so that the second urinary catheter may be removed and replaced in like manner.

BALLOON ANCHORING GUIDE CATHETER EXTENSION
20200398028 · 2020-12-24 ·

A guide catheter extension, having a push member having a proximal end and a distal end; a tube frame coupled to the distal end of the push member, the tube frame defining a lumen having a diameter sufficient to receive an interventional vascular device therethrough; and an inflatable element coupled to the tube frame, wherein the inflatable element is expandable into the lumen.

DUAL-PURPOSE URINARY CATHETER DRAIN LINE AND COLLECTION BAG
20200383822 · 2020-12-10 ·

A sterile dual-purpose closed intermittent urinary catheter system that may be used as either a drain line or a collection bag. A catheter resides within an inner cavity of an extensible sheath and may be extracted from a forward end through an outlet hub for insertion into the urethra. A valve at a rearward end of the sheath may be opened to permit the sheath to function as a drain line, or closed to permit the sheath to function as a collection bag. The sheath has an extended length substantially longer than the catheter length, and may be compressed in an accordion fashion or folded to a compact packaged shape. The urine may be collected in the sheath with the valve closed, or drained straight into a toilet with the valve open. The system may have a source of lubrication to wet the catheter.

LEAD DELIVERY DEVICE AND METHOD
20200360658 · 2020-11-19 ·

A lead delivery apparatus and a method of delivering a medical lead to an anatomic target site. The method includes inserting a hydraulic plug into an internal delivery lumen of a delivery shaft, and coupling a medical lead to the hydraulic plug. Hydraulic pressure is applied to the hydraulic plug through the delivery lumen, thereby moving the hydraulic plug toward an anatomic target site, and advancing the medical lead toward the target site.

REINFORCED BALLOON CATHETER

A balloon catheter is described having a reinforced, co-axial, duel lumen design. In some embodiments, the balloon catheter includes a purging mechanism designed to purge air from the balloon.
