A catheter package and method of use which serve to straighten a curved catheter shaft. The straightening of the catheter shaft may be accomplished by passing the shaft through a pathway that bends the catheter in the opposite direction of the curvature imparted to the catheter shaft. The catheter shaft pathway may incorporate various shaped bumps, ridges, pins or rollers or other features which assist in straightening the shaft.

Certain embodiments are directed to materials and devices to be used in conjuction with interventional medical procedures. In certain aspects the interventional procedure is ultrasound guided venous cathterization.

An intermittent urinary catheter assembly comprising an intermittent urinary catheter comprising a catheter tube (4) with a proximal insertion end (3) and a distal outlet end, the catheter tube comprising a plurality of draining openings (6) at a proximal portion, a handle connected to the distal outlet end of the catheter tube (4), where the handle (30) comprises a first cavity (31) and a coaxial second cavity (33), the first cavity being adapted to provide a through-going hole for draining liquid (urine), and a protective tube (40) adapted for being telescoped in a longitudinal direction between a first proximal position and a second distal position, wherein, in the first proximal position, the protective tube (40) at least partly covers the catheter tube and, in the second distal position, the protective tube is positioned in the second cavity of the handle thereby exposing the full length (L) of the catheter tube for insertion.

A medical device product (10) comprises a package (12) defining an interior cavity (14), an activating liquid located within the interior cavity of the package, and a medical device (18) located within the interior cavity of the package. At least one portion of the medical device is activated by absorbing an amount of the activating liquid. A liquid-drawing member (20) is located within the interior cavity of the package. The liquid-drawing member absorbs any excess activating liquid within the cavity that was not absorbed by the at least one portion of the medical device.

A medical device product (10) comprises a package (12) defining an interior cavity (14). The interior cavity includes a first compartment (16) and a second compartment (18) that are separated by a vapor permeable barrier (20). A vapor donating liquid (22) is located in the first compartment, and the vapor donating liquid donates a vapor (28). A medical device (24) and a draw element (26) are located in the second compartment. The medical device includes at least a portion that is activated by the vapor. The draw element draws the vapor from the first compartment across the barrier and into the second compartment. The vapor activates the portion of the medical device.

A drainage tubing management device is provided. The drainage tubing management device generally comprises a body including a planar field, and having plural pairs of spaced-apart protrusions extending from said field, each pair of protrusions sized to accept flexible drainage tubing therebetween, wherein pairs of the protrusions are arranged in at least first and second rows such that drainage tubing may be retained with respect to said body along the first and second rows, at least one aperture in said body, and a securement mechanism comprising one or more of (a) a post having a longitudinal axis, said post being insertable through within said aperture and having a terminal flange occluding passage of said post through said aperture, said post being sufficiently rigid to support said body and (b) a flexible hanging strap insertable through said aperture and having a terminal flange occluding passage of said strap through said aperture.

A urinary collecting bag comprising a bag part configured for being collapsed in a storage configuration and for being unfolded in a use configuration. A first attachment part and a second attachment part comprise cooperating coupling means which couple first and second attachment parts together in the collapsed storage configuration of the bag part. In the unfolded use configuration of the bag part; the first and second attachment parts are disconnected at said coupling means. A urinary catheter assembly comprising the urinary collecting bag and a urinary catheter is also provided.

A catheter assembly includes a hydrophilic catheter; a wetting fluid for wetting of the catheter; and a receptacle enclosing at least the insertable part of the catheter and the wetting fluid. The wetting fluid is a solution incorporating at least one osmolality-increasing compound, and the total concentration of the osmolality-increasing compound(s) preferably exceeds 600 mOsm/dm.sup.3. The wetting fluid could either be arranged in contact with the hydrophilic surface layer of the catheter in the receptacle, for preservation of the hydrophilic surface layer in a wetted state during accommodation in said receptacle and provision of a ready-to-use catheter assembly, or be arranged to keep the wetting fluid separated from the hydrophilic surface layer of the catheter during storage, but to be brought into contact with said hydrophilic surface layer upon activation before an intended use of the catheter.

Printed instructions can be included with the tray in a medical procedure kit.—The printed instructions can include instructional material, such as pictorial, step-by-step instructions intended for a health care services provider for using the medical procedure kit. The printed instructions can also include a separate patient aid, suitable for inclusion within the medical procedure kit, which includes patient education information relating to a particular medical procedure. To make recognition easier, the patient aid can be configured with a greeting card appearance, activity sheet appearance, or other graphical indicia that indicates that the patient aid is intended for the patient and should be delivered to the patient.

An efficiently packaged ready to use intermittent urinary catheter. The catheter is retained within a retention chamber having a profile that mimics the profile of the catheter by sealing the upper and a lower films together along a peripheral seal line. The retention chamber includes an enlarged compartment intermediate axial ends of the catheter in which lubricant is stored.
