Expandable sheath with interlock dilator

An expandable introducer sheath with an interlock dilator. The present technology provides an expandable sheath with a step feature inside its distal opening, and a dilator with an interlock that includes a catch surface configured to engage with the step feature and resist further relative movement so that the body of the dilator is prevented from exiting the distal end of the expandable sheath. This interlocking engagement may allow the dilator to be used to extend and maintain tension on the expandable sheath during insertion into a patient, and then to be retracted from the expandable sheath by pulling the dilator in the opposite direction. The present technology also provides a dilator hub with a spring mechanism configured to achieve and maintain a desired tension on the expandable sheath and to prevent overextension of the expandable sheath when the dilator is being inserted into the expandable sheath.

The thin film may be formed by extruding a sheet and cutting the sheet into elongate ribbons, each having two opposing long edges. The ribbon may be rolled or wrapped to define a tubular shape with a gap between the long edges. Heat and pressure may be applied to close the gap, abut the edges and form a longitudinal joint. The joint may extend along a portion of the length of the tubular shaft or most of the length of the tubular shaft. The tubular-shaped thin film layer may have a uniform wall thickness around the circumference, and the uniform wall thickness may extend across the joint.

Midline Catheter Placement Device

A catheter insertion device is provided for positioning and inserting a catheter, particularly a midline catheter into a patient. The insertion device includes an actuator assembly movable with respect to a housing for deploying the catheter over a needle. A step-wise movement of the actuator advances a catheter assembly, including the catheter, in stages over the introducer needle. An indexing finger of the catheter assembly engages the actuator body during distal advancement of the actuator, and deflects as the actuator is moved proximally. The device further includes a lockout device such as a button, collar, slider, or tab, which allows movement of the catheter relative to the needle but prevents advancement of the catheter to the first stage of the step-wise movement.

The monitoring device is interconnectable with the cartridge and operable to monitor a volume and/or level of urine collected within the cartridge. The cartridge may include a front portion and a reduced-width projecting portion extending rearwardly from the front portion. The projecting portion of the cartridge may be received within a recessed portion of the monitoring device. The monitoring device may include at least light source (e.g. a laser diode) for emitting a fan beam light signal into the projecting portion and a light detector array (e.g. a charge coupled device) for detection of the fan beam light signal and output of signals employable to determine a volume and/or level of collected urine.

A device for axial and rotational locking of a dual catheter system and methods of the same. The system includes an outer catheter and an inner catheter adapted to be inserted into the outer catheter. The outer catheter extends along a catheter axis and includes an outer catheter shaft and an outer catheter hub. The inner catheter includes an inner catheter shaft and an inner catheter hub. The system also includes an intermediate hub located between the inner and outer catheters. The intermediate hub includes a deformable component positioned around at least a portion of the inner catheter. The deformable component is adapted to be inserted into the outer catheter hub such that the inner catheter is restricted, rotationally about and axially along the catheter axis, relative to the outer catheter.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECTAL ANAESTHESIA

A system and method for delivering a medicament to a target tissue site in a patient over a period of time. A catheter is configured for implantation in different target tissue sites and extends from a proximal end to a distal end and has a sidewall which defines an internal lumen. The distal end has one or more apertures either in the sidewall or at a distal end for the release of the medicament into the target tissue site; the system also comprises a medicament reservoir fluidly communicable with the internal lumen of each catheter, an adhesive member configured to adhere to the skin of the patient around the exit wound and having an opening therein to allow the catheters to pass through the adhesive member and a retaining member configured to be overlaid on the adhesive member and comprising a guide surface configured to receive a length of the two or more catheters and a plurality of retaining portions to retain the catheters against the guide surface.
