Polymer Composite Layered Structure And Melt Functional Fastener
An article is formed by joining two or more layers in a stable structure, containing at least one composite layer that can be melted, with tensile and shear strength. The article is assembled by one or more mechanical fasteners and melt adhesion regions.
Direct molded acoustic insulators
A method to form automobile vehicle acoustic insulators includes as stages: forming a fiber mass by mixing a low melting point polymeric fiber and a high melting point polymeric fiber in predefined volumes in a mixing device; adding a water volume to the fiber mass to create a semi-solid mass; placing the semi-solid mass in a mold; internally heating the semi-solid mass in the mold using microwave energy; and expelling a first portion of the water volume through apertures created in the mold.
Material repair kit
A kit for repairing material includes an external packaging defining an interior cavity and a repair packet inside the interior cavity. The repair packet includes a delivery layer, a frame positioned on the delivery layer, the frame being more rigid than the delivery layer and a repair material adhesively located on a first surface of the delivery substrate. A sacrificial layer is juxtaposed with the repair material such that the repair material is sandwiched between the delivery layer and the applicator layer.
Method of manufacturing image display device
An image display device is manufactured by: applying a liquid photo-curable resin composition having a total value of cure shrinkage ratios based on pre-curing and complete curing of 3% or more to a surface of the light-transmitting cover member or a surface of the image display member with a thickness greater than that of the light-shielding layer to cancel the step between the light-shielding layer and the light-shielding layer forming surface of the light-transmitting cover member; pre-curing the photo-curable resin composition with the irradiation of ultraviolet rays to form a pre-cured resin layer; bonding the light-transmitting cover member to the image display member such that the pre-cured resin layer is placed inside; and subjecting the pre-cured resin layer to the irradiation of ultraviolet rays to achieve the complete curing thereof. The pre-curing is conducted to obtain a cure shrinkage ratio less than 3% in the complete curing thereof.
Cushioning article with tensile component and method of manufacturing a cushioning article
A cushioning article comprises a first and a second polymeric sheet bonded to one another and enclosing an interior cavity. The polymeric sheets retain a gas in the interior cavity. A tensile component disposed in the interior cavity includes a first tensile layer, a second tensile layer, and a plurality of tethers spanning the interior cavity and connecting the first tensile layer to the second tensile layer. An inwardly-protruding bond joins the first polymeric sheet to the first tensile layer, protrudes inward from the first polymeric sheet toward the second polymeric sheet, and partially traverses the plurality of tethers. The first polymeric sheet is displaced from the first tensile layer adjacent to the inwardly-protruding bond by the gas. A method of manufacturing a cushioning article is disclosed.

Method, apparatus and system for lining conduits
Methods, apparatus or equipment and systems for lining conduits, e.g., preferably subterranean pipelines and passageways, such as sewers, with a liner impregnated with a curable resin in order to secure the conduit against ingress or egress of liquids.
APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING JOINED-RESIN PRODUCT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING JOINED-RESIN PRODUCT
Provided is an apparatus for producing a joined-resin product in which two or more resin members are joined. The apparatus includes: a surface treatment mechanism comprising an electrode unit generating ionized gas, and a member holding mechanism arranged at a position separated from the electrode unit by a space and holding the resin member, the surface treatment mechanism activating a surface to be joined of the resin member held by the member holding mechanism, by the ionized gas generated by the electrode unit; and a joining mechanism bonding the two or more resin members together where at least one of surfaces to be joined facing each other is activated by the surface treatment mechanism, at the respective surfaces to be joined.

Near-field microwave heating system and method
A microwave heating device includes a variable frequency microwave power supply, a waveguide launcher, and a fixture to contain a material to be heated, with the fixture located directly adjacent to the end of the launcher. All heating occurs in the near-field region, i.e., no cavity modes or standing waves are established within the fixture. This condition may be insured by keeping the thickness of the fixture or workpiece under one wavelength (at all microwave frequencies being used). The launcher is preferably a horn configured to spread the microwave power laterally over a selected area while maintaining a single propagating mode. The invention may be used to enhance catalytic reactions for research and other purposes. Alternatively, the invention may be configured to perform spot curing or repair operations involving adhesives and composites.
