A device for positioning in the body of an animal, the device comprising a first portion and a second portion that may be positioned in contact with one other, the first portion and the second portion each comprising a biocompatible conductive thermoplastic material, such that when the device is positioned in the body of an animal and electric current flows from the first portion to the second portion, heat is generated by electrical resistance at the point of contact between the first portion and the second portion so as to melt regions of the first portion and the second portion, and when the electric current is thereafter terminated, the melted regions of the first portion and the second portion re-solidify so that a weld is formed between the first portion and the second portion.

HYRBID WELDING OF THERMOPLASTICS

A process for welding of at least two separate vehicle panels (12, 14) to form an integral part (16) for a vehicle. There is provided at least one first panel (12) including a first weld line area (18) and at least one second panel (14) including a corresponding second weld line area (19), the second weld line area (19) abutting in a weldable relationship to the first weld line area (18). The first and second weld line areas (18, 19) have at least one first weldable portion (22) and at least one second portion (24) at which welding is substantially hindered during welding attachment of the first and second panels (12, 14). The process includes applying a curable adhesive at each second portion (24), placing in a welding fixture and welding the panels (12, 14) at each first weldable portion (22) such that the panels (12, 14) are held together during curing of the adhesive.

Induction Curing of Cell-Based Structural Arrays

Adhesive bondlines in a cell-based structural array are thermally cured using tooling blocks inserted into the cells. The tooling blocks have embedded susceptors that are inductively heated by an alternating electromagnetic field generated by an electromagnet.

A heating circuit for joining disposed between members includes a heating wire; and a plurality of projections projecting from the heating wire in a facing direction in which the members face each other. Each length of the plurality of projections in the projecting direction is not less than half a layer thickness of a fused layer obtained by the members being melted.

Method for retreading a tire using a dual heating effect

The method includes the step of passing an electric current through at least one wire that is situated between a carcass of a tire casing and a tread. The method also includes the step of calculating a value of a temperature of the wire as a function of a relative value of the current. The method proceeds with the step of controlling the current as a function of the temperature value calculated.

Injection molded composite blank and guide

This specification discloses an article of manufacture. The article of manufacture has at least one structural blank and at least one guide. The structural blank has a plurality of oriented fiber plies in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide has a plurality of random dispersed fibers in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide is affixed to the structural blank by injection molding and over molding the guide onto the structural blank. The article of manufacture can take a number of forms for use in industries such as aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, trains or watercraft.

Systems and methods for joining blade components of rotor blades

Systems and methods for joining blade components of a rotor blade are provided. A method includes positioning a first blade component and a second blade component such that a joint location of the first blade component and a joint location of the second blade component are proximate each other. The method further includes applying a force to an outer surface of the second blade component and an opposing force to an inner surface of the second blade component. The force and opposing force maintain an aerodynamic contour of the second blade component. The method further includes connecting the joint location of the first blade component and the joint location of the second blade component together.

Method for connecting two joining elements

The present invention relates to a method for connecting two joining elements, these elements being connected by means of a thermally activatable adhesive with a flat heating element arranged therein, by suitable heating of the adhesive. The invention also relates to an assembly produced in this way from two joining elements and to an arrangement designed for carrying out a corresponding method.

Fixture for testing the shear performance of microcellular-foamed thermoplastic composite welds

A lap shear test fixture and method of use to test the performance of the weld interface in welded thermoplastic composite parts such as infrared welded or resistive implant welded or adhesive bonded composite parts. The specimens to be tested are provided from production-ready parts with typical geometry. The test fixture has at least two aligned blocks with at least two lateral support blocks that operably hold the specimen including two welded substrates. The test is performed in compression-mode at a predetermined crosshead speed until the maximum load produced by a universal testing machine makes the weld interface between the two thermoplastic substrates fail in shear mode.
