Binding machine and method for securing a part of a binding element in a loop around one or more objects
A binding machine comprising: —a feeding device for feeding a binding element (3) in the form of a wire or strap in a loop around one or more objects to be bound and subsequently retracting the binding element to draw it tightly around said objects; and—a laser welding device for forming a welded joint between a section at the leading end of the binding element and an adjoining section at the trailing end of the part (3a) of the binding element fed in a loop around said objects to thereby secure this part of the binding element in a loop around the objects. The laser welding device is configured to cut off the binding element at said trailing end to thereby release said part (3a) of the binding element from the remaining part (3b) of the binding element.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REINFORCING PIPING AND INSTALLING A PIPE ADAPTER
A method of joining a non-metallic pipe to a metallic pipe. The pipe may be wrapped with one or more sheets of reinforcement material (e.g., pre-impregnated fiberglass, carbon fiber, or aramid fiber) and then fitted with an adapter or fitting that is connectable to a metallic pipe. The reinforcement material may be heated using a heating apparatus which allows the material to bond to the pipe to strengthen the joint.
Process for joining overlapping thermoplastic membrane components
A method of joining overlapping thermoplastic membrane components in which a first thermoplastic membrane component and a second thermoplastic membrane component are positioned in overlapping relationship between a pair of complementary molding surfaces, with at least one of the complementary molding surfaces being defined by an electrically conductive metal susceptor. Heat is generated in the metal susceptor and transferred by thermal conduction from the metal susceptor to overlapping portions of the first and second thermoplastic membrane components to locally melt and coalesce at least a portion of the thermoplastic material of the first thermoplastic membrane component and at least a portion of the thermoplastic material of the second thermoplastic membrane component. The molten thermoplastic material of the first and second thermoplastic membrane components forms a zone of coalesced thermoplastic material that, upon cooling, forms a solid weld joint that fusion welds the first and second thermoplastic membrane components together.
Tire carcass ply joining apparatus and method
A method forms a butt joint between ends of first and second plies and splices the first and second plies together. The method includes the steps of: positioning a first splice edge of a first ply at a first location; positioning a second splice edge of a second ply at a second location, the second splice edge being left bare; wrapping a gum strip around the first splice edge such that the first gum strip forms a U-shaped structure in section that allows the first gum strip to extend from a first planar side of the first ply over the first splice edge to a second opposite planar side of the first ply; not wrapping a gum strip around the second splice edge; placing the first splice edge in abutting relationship to the second splice edge; and stitching the first splice edge to the second splice edge such that stitches each extend from the first planar side of the first ply, through the gum strip, to the first planar side of the second ply.
Sterile connection of tubing
A sterile connection device includes first and second carriages. The first carriage defines a first portion of a proximal slot and a first portion of a distal slot, while the second carriage defines second portions of the proximal and distal slots. A controller executes a sterile connection procedure in which a solid cutting blade is heated, followed by the heated blade being moved to a cutting position to cut sealed proximal and distal tubes received by the slots. The second carriage moves proximally or distally with respect to the first carriage so as to align the cut ends of the tubes. The heated blade then moves out of the cutting position, followed by the first carriage moving toward the second carriage so as to press the cut ends of the tubes into contact with each other so as to sterilely connect the cut ends and define a joined tube.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ATTACHING A WIND TURBINE BLADE COMPONENT TO A WIND TURBINE BLADE SHELL PART
The present invention relates to a system and method for attaching a wind turbine blade component to a surface of a wind turbine blade shell part at a component attachment position. The system comprises a blade shell part support for supporting the blade shell part, a jig comprising a jig base and a component platform for receiving and holding the wind turbine blade component in a first position above at least a part of the blade shell part, the component platform being arranged on the jig base and being at least vertically displaceable relative to the jig base by displacement means to allow the wind turbine blade component to be lowered from the first position to the component attachment position.
Wind turbine blade manufacture
A wind turbine blade and associated method of manufacture is described. The blade comprises an outer shell formed of first and second half shells joined together. A shear web is arranged inside the outer shell. The shear web has a web panel disposed between first and second longitudinally-extending mounting flanges. The shear web is bonded to inner surfaces of the respective half shells via a first adhesive bond line between the first mounting flange and the inner surface of the first half shell and a second adhesive bond line between the second mounting flange and the inner surface of the second half shell. One or more bond spacers are provided in the second bond line, and optionally in the first bond line. The bond spacers are compressed between a shear web mounting flange and an inner surface of a half shell and are plastically deformed. The method of making the shear web involves compressing and the one or bond spacers in the bond line(s) such that they undergo plastic deformation. This results in high quality bond lines.
Apparatus and method for mechanically opening a connection site
Method and apparatus are disclosed for mechanically opening a heat-bonded connection site between two hollow, flexible, thermoplastic segments of a medical fluid flow path, the heat-bonded connection site having an axis. The connection site is compressed between two facing surfaces, and the facing surfaces are relatively moved to rotate the connection site about the connection site axis and to apply force to the connection site substantially perpendicular to the connection site axis.
Method for setting up a joining apparatus for joining a light lens to a housing of a motor vehicle lighting arrangement
A method for setting up a joining apparatus for joining a light lens to a housing of a motor vehicle lighting arrangement. A first virtual model is created of the joining apparatus with a light lens and a housing received therein, a relative arrangement of the light lens to the housing corresponds to a target arrangement. A plurality of virtual models are created of the joining apparatus with the light lens and the housing received therein. The relative arrangement of the light lens to the housing deviates from the target arrangement in each case by means of virtual displacement of the adjuster. A target displacement is calculated of an adjuster on the basis of a functional relationship calculated and the relative arrangement in the test construction unit measured. A light lens is joined to a housing in the target arrangement by displacing the adjuster by the target displacement.
System and process for producing a composite article
A method of producing a composite article is disclosed that includes generating composite plies from a low tack composite prepreg material, connecting, by an ultrasonic welding device, two or more of the composite plies by increasing their tackiness to form a composite stack, and forming, by a compression molding device, a composite article from the composite stack.
