PILL WITH NEEDLE DELIVERY SYSTEM HAVING OUTWARDLY EXPANDING MECHANICAL ACTUATION
A device can include a capsule containing an array of microneedles and a mechanical actuator. The device can be in an ingestible form for delivery to a duodenum or other target location within a subject and can release the mechanical actuator from constraint by the capsule in response to stimuli or conditions in or en route to the duodenum or other target location. The mechanical actuator upon release from constraint by the capsule can expand outwardly (e.g., responsive to a bias provided by a flexibly resilient material of the mechanical actuator) in a direction away from a central longitudinal axis of the mechanical actuator and drive the array of microneedles into penetrating engagement with a lining of the duodenum or other target location. The penetrating engagement can facilitate delivery of a biotherapeutic agent or other payload via the microneedles.
Implants for Localized Drug Delivery and Methods of Use Thereof
Provided herein is an implant for delivering a hydrophobic active agent to a target tissue. The implant may include a scaffold defining a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, wherein the scaffold is substantially impermeable to a hydrophobic active agent, and a silicone tubing having a wall permeable to the active agent, wherein a first length of the silicone tubing is affixed to the first surface of the scaffold, wherein the two ends of the silicone tubing extend from the first surface and wherein a path outlined by a second length of the tubing within the first length is circuitous. Also provided is a method of using the implant to locally deliver a hydrophobic active agent to a target tissue, and kits that find use in performing the present method.
IMPLANTABLE SCAFFOLDS FOR TREATMENT OF SINUSITIS
This disclosure describes, inter alia, materials, devices, kits and methods that may be used to treat chronic sinusitis.
CAPSULE DEVICE HAVING IMPROVED SELF-RIGHTING ABILITY
A capsule device suitable for insertion into a lumen of a patient, the lumen having a lumen wall, wherein the capsule device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500) comprises a) a capsule housing (110, 120, 210, 220) having an outside shape formed as a rounded object and defining an exterior surface, and b) a tissue interfacing component (130, 230) disposed relative to the capsule housing (110, 120, 210, 220), the tissue interfacing component (130, 230) configured to interact with the lumen wall at a target location, wherein the capsule device is configured as a self-righting capsule having a geometric center and a center of mass offset from the geometric center along a first axis, wherein when the capsule device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500) is supported by the tissue of the lumen wall while being oriented so that the centre of mass is offset laterally from the geometric center the capsule device experiences an externally applied torque due to gravity acting to orient the capsule device with the first axis oriented along the direction of gravity to enable the tissue interfacing component (130, 230) to interact with the lumen wall at the target location, wherein at least a portion of the exterior surface of the capsule device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500) has a surface property exhibiting one or more surface properties selected from the group consisting of a surface coating, a surface roughness, a surface geometry, and a surface micro-geometry, and wherein said surface property is selected to provide low friction, such as low static friction, ensuring slipping movement of the capsule device relative to the tissue of the lumen wall when said externally applied torque due to gravity acts on the capsule device.
INGESTIBLE DEVICE WITH PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCT
A pharmaceutical product including a housing that defines a cavity, wherein the cavity stores a pharmaceutical material, and wherein the housing comprises a material configured to dissolve based on contact with a fluid, an ingestible device to encode information in a current signature, wherein the ingestible device is positioned within the housing, and a protective material that encompasses the ingestible device. The ingestible device may be attached to a flexible component, wherein the flexible component is configured to releasably secure the ingestible device within the housing.
LIGHT-ACTIVATED ULTRASONIC DELIVERY AND MANIPULATION OF LIQUID MEDICATION FROM A DRUG RESERVOIR
The devices, assemblies, and methods described herein utilize photoacoustic principals to create a jet of fluid using a ultrasonic resonance member and a pulsed laser light beam. The ultrasonic resonance member is a treated substrate having an liquid interface surface in contact with a fluid. When a pulsed laser light beam is applied to the treated substrate, pressure is generated via induced ultrasonic waves to urge the fluid into a jet stream.
Oral delivery of active drug substances
The present disclosure relates to a delivery device capable of delivering compositions. In some embodiments, the delivery device may deliver compositions to the gastrointestinal tract. In some embodiments, the compositions contain active drug substances. In some embodiments, the active drug substances are low permeable active drug substances.
Method and apparatus for delivering a drug
In the specification and drawings a method and apparatus for delivering a drug into a nasal turbinate or nasal polyp is described and shown, which can include implanting a drug eluting implant into a nasal turbinate or nasal polyp; and leaving the drug eluting material in the nasal turbinate or nasal polyp for at least one day such that a drug is released from the drug eluting implant over a period of time.
NASAL INSERT HAVING ONE OR MORE SENSORS
The disclosed devices and methods provide one or more sensors associated with a nasal insert to provide data on respiratory health from within a patient's nasal passage. The nasal insert may simply be a vehicle for carrying one or more sensors, or the nasal insert itself may form part of the treatment. For example, the nasal insert may be used to increase airflow through the nasal passages. The nasal insert can contain a bio-sensor that may be affixed to an internal or external surface of the insert, be embedded partially or fully in an internal or external surface of the insert, or may pass through an internal or external wall of the nasal insert. In addition, the insert may include grooves that can be used to attach a sensor to the insert, for example, in place of or in conjunction with a filter.
SECURE MEDICATION DELIVERY
A method includes providing a medication delivery vehicle comprising a reservoir with a seal formed thereon and a cantilevered beam micro-machined from a layer of material and coupled to the reservoir, the cantilevered beam comprising a tip for puncturing the seal, applying an electric field to the cantilevered beam that impels the tip forward and causes the tip to break through the seal of the reservoir, and changing the electric field to impel the micro-machined tip backward and thereby release a medication from the reservoir. A computer program product and computer system corresponding to the method are also disclosed.
