20220242070 · 2022-08-04 ·

A method of the invention produces a composite material conjugate in which a first composite material and a second composite material are adhered without using an adhesive, wherein a first prepreg laminate to which a release member is attached is cured to form the first composite material, the release member being made of a material that does not transfer silicone and fluorine to the first prepreg laminate, after detaching the release member from the first composite material, surface treatment that imparts polar functional groups to the surface of the first composite material to which the release member was bonded is carried out to activate the surface, a second prepreg laminate is placed directly on the activated surface of the first composite material, and the second prepreg laminate is cured to form a second composite material adhered to the first composite material.

Surface treatment to enhance bonding of composite materials

A method for surface preparation of composite substrates prior to adhesive bonding. A curable surface treatment layer containing blocked isocyanate compounds is applied onto a curable composite substrate, followed by co-curing. The surface treatment layer may be a resin layer without fibers or a removal peel ply composed of resin-impregnated fabric. After surface preparation, the composite substrate is provided with a chemically-active, bondable surface that can be adhesively bonded to another composite substrate to form a covalently-bonded structure.

HYRBID WELDING OF THERMOPLASTICS
20220063209 · 2022-03-03 · ·

A process for welding of at least two separate vehicle panels (12, 14) to form an integral part (16) for a vehicle. There is provided at least one first panel (12) including a first weld line area (18) and at least one second panel (14) including a corresponding second weld line area (19), the second weld line area (19) abutting in a weldable relationship to the first weld line area (18). The first and second weld line areas (18, 19) have at least one first weldable portion (22) and at least one second portion (24) at which welding is substantially hindered during welding attachment of the first and second panels (12, 14). The process includes applying a curable adhesive at each second portion (24), placing in a welding fixture and welding the panels (12, 14) at each first weldable portion (22) such that the panels (12, 14) are held together during curing of the adhesive.

METHOD FOR CONNECTING TWO COMPONENTS MADE OF A THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL
20220072805 · 2022-03-10 ·

A method for connecting two components. In this method, a first component and a second component, which are each formed from a thermoplastic material, are first provided. The first component has a first peel-off ply on a first surface of the first component. The first peel-off ply is removed from the first component. Once the first peel-off ply has been removed, the first surface of the first component is brought into contact with a second surface of the second component. The first component and the second component are then welded to one another at the first and second surface by ultrasonic welding.

Method for plasma treating substrates and for bonding plasma treated substrates
11148408 · 2021-10-19 · ·

A method for plasma treating a surface of a first substrate is disclosed. The method may comprise generating a plasma flume using a plasma treatment device having a nozzle. The plasma flume may emanate through a flume aperture of the nozzle at an emanation angle of about 5 degrees or less. The emanation angle may be defined as an angle between a central axis of the nozzle and a central axis of the flume aperture. The method may further comprise plasma treating the surface of the first substrate with the plasma flume by scanning the plasma flume over the surface of the first substrate. The first substrate may be one of a consolidated thermoplastic material and a cured thermoset material.

Fastening objects to each other

A method of fastening a second object to a fiber composite part including a structure of fibers embedded in a matrix material includes: providing the fiber composite part including an attachment surface, with a portion of the structure of fibers being exposed at the attachment surface; providing the second object; placing the second object relative to the fiber composite part, with a resin in a flowable state between the attachment surface and the connector; pressing the second object and the fiber composite part against each other and causing mechanical vibration to act on the second object or the fiber composite part or both, thereby causing the resin to infiltrate the exposed structure of fibers and activating the resin to cross-link; whereby the resin, after cross-linking, secures the second object to the fiber composite part.

Bonding of thermoplastic components to a thermoset component

A process for producing a component from a fiber-reinforced plastic with a thermoset matrix. The process includes the steps providing a first and second thermoset prepreg layer, producing a cutout in the first thermoset prepreg layer, providing a thermoplastic layer in the semifinished product between the first and the second thermoset prepreg layer in the region of the cutout, and manufacturing the component with a first and second thermoset layer and a thermoplastic layer in the region of the cutout, where the thermoplastic layer is locked between the two thermoset layers. The component may be used in a vehicle, where the component has been produced from a fiber-reinforced plastic with a thermoset matrix by the abovementioned process.

ASSEMBLY METHOD FOR TREATMENT INSTRUMENT AND RESIN PAD

A method of forming a 3D part includes applying liquid on a pattern on at least some of a plurality of sheets, applying a bonding agent on the liquid pattern on the at least some of the plurality of sheets, and forming perforations within the plurality of sheets along a perforation outline. The plurality of sheets are bonded together at the patterns between sheets via the bonding agent and a 3D pre-form within a stack of the plurality of sheets is formed. The perforations within each sheet bounds the pattern on each sheet and excess sheet material is removed from the stack of sheets bonded together by separating the plurality sheets along the perforations. Removal of the excess sheet material provides a semi-finished 3D part. The semi-finished 3D part may be further processed, e.g., by bead blasting, to provide a finished 3D part.
