Self-sealing tires

The present disclosure relates to self-sealing tires, a process for making said self-sealing tires and the use of a silicone composition cured via a condensation cure chemistry to form a self-sealing layer designed to function as both (i) a self-sealing tire puncture material, i.e., to seal puncture holes in the tread region of tires if/when punctured by a foreign body and (ii) as an adhesive for sound-absorbing foams adapted to reduce the noise generated by tires during travel.

Sealant layer with barrier, tire containing same, and related processes

A tire sealant layer comprising a rubber portion with an upper surface and a lower surface, and a barrier layer upon the lower surface of the rubber portion is disclosed. The rubber portion comprises a mixture of 100 parts of at least one rubber, 90-500 parts of at least one tackifier, optionally one or more extenders, optionally at least one hydroscopic substance, and a cure package. Also disclosed is a process for producing a sealant layer-tire inner liner combination as well as a sealant layer-containing tire and related processes involving the sealant layer-containing tire.

SEALANT COMPOSITION FOR SELF-SEALING PNEUMATIC TIRE

A sealant composition suited to forming a sealant layer in a tire includes 100 phr elastomers, including at least 60 phr of an isobutylene-based elastomer component, and at least 5 phr of a conjugated diene-based elastomer component. The sealant composition further includes at least 5 phr of particulate filler, at least 0.5 phr of an organic peroxide, and optionally a colorant which provides the sealant with a non-black color.

MODIFIED TIRE SEALANT MIXING DEVICE

A mixing and extrusion machine for tire sealant materials of the type comprising: a dump extruder equipped with conical converging twin screws located in a batching chamber, said chamber having a low pressure feeding area and a high pressure ducted area; a removable blind flange for temporarily sealing the outlet of said batching chamber so that said material is forced to recirculate between said duct area and said feeding area within said batching chamber, said chamber thereby also acting as a compounding chamber; and an inlet port located in the high pressure ducted area, the inlet port capable of introducing a diluent during mixing of a tire sealant material.
