A method for reconditioning a rollable wheel includes coupling a polymeric wheel to a reconditioning system, the polymeric wheel having an outer surface including an abraded area, the abraded area having a first average surface roughness, and applying heat to the abraded area of the outer surface with one or more heater of the reconditioning system, such that a substantial portion of the abraded area is transformed to have a second average surface roughness, the second average surface roughness less than the first average surface roughness.

Method of correcting an inappropriate countersink in a composite component

A method of correcting, in a composite component, an inappropriate countersink with an inappropriate maximum diameter and/or depth, the inappropriate countersink being provided in the composite component at a fixation opening having a first opening diameter, the method comprising at least the steps of: Preparing a repair patch; Arranging the repair patch on the composite component in an area surrounding the inappropriate countersink; Pressing the repair patch at least partly into the inappropriate countersink by means of an associated pressure tool; and Fixing the repair patch in the inappropriate countersink.

Magnetic compaction blanket for composite structure curing

A method and apparatus for reworking a structure. A compaction blanket comprising a number of magnets is placed on the structure. A heat source is applied on the compaction blanket, wherein the compaction blanket is between the heat source and a rework of the structure and heat is conducted from the heat source through the compaction blanket to heat the rework.

Heating elements for repair of molding defects for carbon fiber thermoplastic composites

Methods of repairing a manufacturing defect in a molded polymeric composite structure are provided. A polymeric patch may optionally be disposed over a defect on a first contoured surface of the molded polymeric composite structure having the defect. A heating element that defines a second contoured surface complementary with at least a portion of the first contoured surface is applied over the polymeric patch. The heating element includes an electrically conductive layer that includes a fabric and a thermoset polymer. The polymeric patch is heated with the heating element, where the heating element has a substantially uniform temperature across the second contoured surface so that the polymeric patch fills the defect. Methods of making the customized heating elements and the customized heating elements are also provided.
