HIGH STRENGTH POLYMER METAL COMPOSITES AND METHODS OF MAKING THEREOF
The present invention provides polymer-metal composites free of adhesives and methods of making same. In particular, the present invention takes advantage of a unique metallic bonding surface created by exposure to a laser whereby micron-sized fragments are fixed to the metallic bonding surface such that a high strength bond with polymeric material is created upon exposure to a second laser.
Long film
A long-length film including a plurality of knurl portions shaped by continuous linear concavo-convex portions on at least one surface thereof, wherein the plurality of knurl portions are aligned in a lengthwise direction of the long-length film, a planar shape of the knurl portion seen from a thickness direction of the long-length film includes: 10 or more corners having a curvature radius of 0.3 mm or less and an angle of 100 or less or a curvature radius of 0.2 mm or less and an angle of 120 or less, per one planar shape of the knurl portion; and 18 or more straight portions having a straight shape, per one planar shape of the knurl portion.
Flexible packaging structure with a built-in opening and reclose feature
A flexible packaging laminate is formed to have a built-in opening and reclose feature by forming the laminate as a two-part structure having an outer structure joined in face-to-face relation with an inner structure. Score lines are formed in both structures to enable an opening to be formed through the laminate by lifting an opening portion (e.g., a flap or the like) of the two structures out of the plane of the laminate. The score line through the outer structure defines a larger opening than the score line through the inner structure, such that a marginal region of the outer structure extends beyond the edge of the opening portion of the inner structure. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used to re-adhere the marginal region to an underlying surface of the inner structure adjacent the opening through the laminate.
Flexible Packaging Structure With Built-In Tamper-Evidence Features and Method for Making Same
A flexible packaging laminate has built-in opening/reclose and tamper-evidence features by forming the laminate from an outer structure joined in face-to-face relation to an inner structure. Score lines are formed in both structures to enable an opening to be formed through the laminate by lifting a flap or the like out of the plane of the laminate. The outer score line includes at least one tab positioned within a heat seal region of the laminate.
BONDED COMPOSITE OF THERMOPLASTIC-RESIN-BASED FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND METAL MEMBER, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING BONDED COMPOSITE
A composite including: (I) a fiber-reinforced composite material; and (II) a metal member joined and fixed to the fiber-reinforced composite material by welding. The fiber-reinforced composite material is composed of reinforcing fibers and a resin composition. The resin composition contains (A) a polypropylene-based resin and (B) a modified polyolefin-based resin. The polypropylene-based resin has a tensile modulus of not less than 1 GPa. The modified polyolefin-based resin is a modified polyolefin resin modified with at least one kind of monomer which is selected from carboxylic acid group-containing vinyl monomers and epoxy group-containing vinyl monomers. A weight ratio between (A) and (B) in the resin composition is 90:10 to 40:60.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CHANGING A REFRACTIVE PROPERTY OF AN IMPLANTABLE INTRAOCULAR LENS
A method of altering a refractive property of a crosslinked acrylic polymer material by irradiating the material with a high energy pulsed laser beam to change its refractive index. The method is used to alter the refractive property, and hence the optical power, of an implantable intraocular lens after implantation in the patient's eye. In some examples, the wavelength of the laser beam is in the far red and near IR range and the light is absorbed by the crosslinked acrylic polymer via two-photon absorption at high laser pulse energy. The method also includes designing laser beam scan patterns that compensate for effects of multiphone absorption such as a shift in the depth of the laser pulse absorption location, and compensate for effects caused by high laser pulse energy such as thermal lensing. The method can be used to form a Fresnel lens in the optical zone.
Device and method for producing three-dimensional shaped parts
The invention relates to a device and a method for producing three-dimensional shaped parts by means of a layer construction method on a construction field in a construction space of a device, wherein materials are supplied to and discharged from the construction space. A supplying and discharging of all materials is carried out in a spatial direction of the device.
The outer score line includes at least one tab positioned within a heat seal region of the laminate.
Ophthalmic lens customization system and method
A system/method allowing personalized ex vivo customization of a generic ophthalmic lens blank (OLB) or ophthalmic lens with known diopter (OKD) based on localized field-measured patient characteristics is disclosed. The OLB is composed of an acrylic material that has been infused with an ultraviolet (UV) absorbing compound rendering it amenable to customized spatial modification (CSM) of its refractive index via the use of pulsed laser radiation (PLR). The CSM of refractive index eliminates the need for remote laboratory fabrication of a customized intraocular lens (IOL) for the patient. The OLB is retained within a secured lens container (SLC) providing for precise physical orientation of the OLB haptics and OLB lens structure with respect to the application of PLR to the OLB. The SLC contains a lens filler material (LFM) covering the OLB and is hermetically sealed after the OLB has been positioned within the SLC interior and prior to sterilization of the SLC+OLB combination.
