Fluid lenses, lens blanks, and methods of manufacturing the same
A lens blank for a fluid lens includes a rigid lens and a semi-flexible inflatable membrane attached to the rigid lens. The lens blank is divided into a cavity zone and a bonded zone. The cavity zone extends radially outward from a central area of the lens blank and a cavity is formed between the membrane and the rigid lens within the cavity zone. The bonded zone extends radially outward from the cavity zone and the membrane is bonded and fluidly sealed to the rigid lens throughout the bonded zone. The bonded zone is dimensioned to be trimmed to accommodate a plurality of frame shapes and sizes. Methods of manufacturing lens blanks are also provided. Arrays of lens blanks and fluid lenses are also provided.
Fluidic module for accommodating soft contact lens
A meniscus shaped lens module comprises one or more structures that decrease an amount of pressure or force to move one or more surfaces of the lens module and increase a separation distance of anterior and posterior surfaces of the module in order to provide an increase in optical power. A lens structure of the module comprises one or more of a pattern of a surface of a central chamber, a meniscus, a reduced diameter or a soft material in order to provide increased amounts of curvature of an outer contact lens surface with decreased amounts of pressure. The pattern can be formed in one or more of many ways, and may comprise one or more of folds, patterning, bellows or concertinaed surface of an optically transmissive material having a substantially uniform thickness such as a sheet of a membrane material.
FLUIDIC MODULE FOR ACCOMMODATING SOFT CONTACT LENS

A lens structure of the module comprises one or more of a pattern of a surface of a central chamber, a meniscus, a reduced diameter or a soft material in order to provide increased amounts of curvature of an outer contact lens surface with decreased amounts of pressure. Progressive lens and manufacture thereof
Apparatus and methods are described including a progressive lens (20) that is configured to provide a far-vision correction and a near-vision correction. The progressive lens includes a single-focus, far-vision corrective lens (22) that is configured to provide only a portion of the far-vision correction, and a film (24) coupled to the single-focus, far-vision corrective lens (22). The film (24) defines a far-vision corrective portion (26) that is configured to provide the remainder of the far-vision correction, a near-vision corrective portion (28) that is configured to provide additive near-vision correction, and an intermediate portion (30) in which the film transitions between the far-vision corrective portion and the near-vision corrective portion. Other applications are also described.
OPTICAL ARTICLES HAVING EMBOSSED FILMS DEFINING ENCAPSULATED MICROLENSES AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
The present disclosure includes optical articles comprising a film layer that has first and second film surfaces and is embossed such that the first film surface defines a plurality of concave optical elements and the second film surface defines a plurality of convex optical elements. The present optical articles can include one or more optical layers coupled to the film layer. Each of the optical layer(s) can encapsulate the concave optical elements or the convex optical elements.
ROTATIONALLY STABILIZED CONTACT LENS
The stabilized contact lens methods and apparatus disclosed herein provide improved stabilization of a contact lens placed on a cornea of an eye. The contact lens comprises stabilization zones that allow the lens to repeatedly and consistently orient on the cornea such that a sensing zone located on the lower portion of the lens is located inferiorly to engage the lower eyelid. The stabilized contact lens can provide a lower pressure sensing zone with decreased thickness for pressure or other sensing related to the lower eyelid. The decreased thickness has the advantage of improving coupling between forces from an eyelid and a lower chamber of a fluidic module. The improved coupling allows increased amounts of fluid to move between the lower chamber and an upper optical chamber coupled to the lower chamber, such that the upper chamber can increase curvature and optical power in response to pressures of the eyelid.
Lens element
A lens element intended to be worn in front of an eye of a wearer, the lens element including at least two first areas having a refractive power based on a prescription of the wearer for said eye of the wearer, a plurality of second areas having at least a second optical function in specific wearing conditions, where one can determine at least one first radial path crossing at least a first second area in a first point and a second point, the first and second points being adjacent to the at least two first areas, the first radial coordinate being greater than the second radial coordinate, and the radial optical power at the first point is significantly different from the radial optical power at the second point.
DIFFRACTIVE MULTIFOCAL CONTACT LENS
Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a contact lens with a stepped-transition diffractive design. An example contact lens has an optical zone on its anterior or posterior surface. The optical zone has a circular diffractive zone that has a stepped-transition diffractive surface profile that provides at least one first refractive optical element and at least one diffractive optical element and optionally an annular refractive zone comprising a second refractive optical element. The at least one diffractive optical element comprises a plurality of concentric annular transition surface zones surrounding a central circular area of the contact lens. The stepped-transition surface profile has a monotonically increasing surface sagitta (SAG) in a direction radiating from the central axis of the contact lens.
