An operable implant adapted to be implanted in the body of a patient. The operable implant comprising an operation device and a body engaging portion, the operation device comprises an electrical motor comprising a static part comprising a plurality of coils and a movable part comprising a plurality of magnets, such that sequential energizing of said coils magnetically propels the magnets and thus propels the movable part. The operation device further comprises an enclosure adapted to hermetically enclose the coils of the static part, such that a seal is created between the static part and the propelled moving part with the included magnets, such that the coils of the static part are sealed from the bodily fluids, when implanted.

Device to assist the performance of a heart

In a catheter (2) to assist the performance of a heart (1) with at least one pump (7), the pump is formed as a rotary pump at the distal end of the catheter (2), the rotor (6) lying distally on the outer side being coupled via a magneto coupling with a drive wheel (21), formed as a hydraulically or pneumatically operated paddle wheel, arranged inside the catheter (2). The driving fluid is supplied to the paddle wheel via a lumen (22) of the catheter (2) and is carried off via a further lumen (23) of the catheter.

The present invention also relates to a transcatheter system comprising an intracorporeal connector for fluid communication between two anatomical compartments through at least one anatomical wall, wherein said connector is adapted to receive a flow regulating device, a connector, a flow regulating device and an insertion device.

Electrocardiography Triggered Piston Pump
20210290935 · 2021-09-23 ·

A positive displacement pump that triggers with the beating of a mammalian heart, through the monitoring of an ECG signal is disclosed. A programmable delay from the detection of the forthcoming contraction of the heart enables the pump to syncopate the ejection of the fluid with the events occurring in the cardiovascular system. This delayed ejection could be used to overlay the ejected fluid from the pump with a pressure wave in the artery of systemic circulation through a catheter connection between the pump and a physiological model (e.g., cow, dog, human). The outcome of this use could be to raise the pulse pressure in the system to take advantage of physiological pathways that respond to this transient change in blood pressure. The novelty of this system stems from the adaptable control architecture designed to augment the pulsatile characteristics of the cardiovascular system. This inventive concept could be expanded to encompass the augmentation (dampen or enhance) of pulsatile characteristics in any oscillating flow system.

Devices and methods for providing localized pressure to a region of a patient's heart to improve heart functioning, including: (a) a jacket made of a flexible biocompatible material, the jacket having an open top end that is received around the heart and a bottom portion that is received around the apex of the heart; and (b) at least one inflatable bladder disposed on an interior surface of the jacket, the inflatable bladder having an inelastic outer surface positioned adjacent to the jacket and an elastic inner surface such that inflation of the bladder causes the bladder to deform substantially inwardly to exert localized pressure against a region of the heart.

Centrifugal blood pump with hydrodynamic bearing
11092158 · 2021-08-17 · ·

A centrifugal blood pump without a mechanical bearing comprises a pump casing (1), an impeller (9) arranged in the pump casing rotatably about the central axis and freely movable axially and radially within a limited clearance. The impeller has permanent magnets or permanently magnetized magnetic regions (N/S) which cooperate with an electromagnetic drive to set the impeller rotating. A circular wall (12) or circularly arranged wall sections are provided within the pump casing, their inner surfaces defining a radial clearance together with the outer circumference of the impeller to form a hydrodynamic radial bearing for the impeller.

ALTERNATING PUMP GAPS

A blood pump system includes a pump housing and an impeller for rotating in a pump chamber within the housing. The impeller has a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The system includes a stator having drive coils for applying a torque to the impeller and at least one bearing mechanism for suspending the impeller within the pump chamber. The system includes a position control mechanism for moving the impeller in an axial direction within the pump chamber to adjust a size of a first gap and a size of a second gap, thereby controlling a washout rate at each of the first gap and the second gap. The first gap is defined by a distance between the first side and the housing and the second gap is defined by a distance between the second side and the pump housing.

Mechanical assist device

Methods and apparatuses relate to an implantable device for providing contractile assistance to an organ. The device may include an actuator and anchors located on either side of the actuator. The anchors engage with oppositely positioned tissue walls of an organ chamber, and provide contractile assistance to the organ, repeatedly, at appropriate times. For example, the device may be implanted within the right ventricle, anchored to the right ventricular free wall and the ventricular septum. The device may function to bring the opposing walls of the ventricle toward one another, synchronized with the pacing of the heart, resulting in an improved ejection fraction of blood from the chamber. In some embodiments, the actuator includes a bladder that is configured to contract upon receiving an inflow of pressurized fluid therein. When the fluid exits therefrom, the bladder relaxes back to an initial, extended state.
