FOOTWEAR AND OTHER ARTICLES FORMED BY JET EXTRUSION PROCESSES

In certain aspects, the inventive subject matter is directed to production of constructs of footwear and components thereof by jet extrusion. The inventive subject matter contemplates novel processes for making such constructs using jets or streams of materials that solidify as fibers, and which form into two- or three-dimensional webs as they are collected. The webs may be in the nature of films, membranes, or mats. In some embodiments, the inventive subject matter generally relates to nonwoven textiles consisting of webs of superfine fibers, i.e., fibers with diameters in nanoscale or micronscale ranges.

Shoe part shaping insert to be placed in a mold
09764521 · 2017-09-19 · ·

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a shoe part by injection molding a material into a mold where an insert is placed. The insert comprises at least two separable insert parts, an upper insert part and a lower insert part, providing an injection channel in the region of the separation area between the two parts. The insert is placed in the chamber and the injection material is injected through a sprue channel in the mold into the injection channel and into a cavity, whereby the shoe part is formed. The mold is opened after the injection material has cured and the insert is separated into the upper and lower insert parts, thereby exposing the cured material in the injection channel.

FOOTWEAR WITH MESH SOLE CONSTRUCTION

A footwear construction includes a midsole including a lateral sidewall and a medial sidewall, and a mesh substrate layer covering the lateral sidewall and medial sidewall to protect the surfaces of those sidewalls from abrasion, wear and damage, and in some cases to provide tuned stiffness to the sidewalls and thus the midsole. The mesh substrate layer can wrap partially above and below the midsole so that edges of the layer can be conceals between the midsole and an upper, or between the midsole and an outsole layer. The mesh substrate can include a mesh material and a film sheet bonded to one another, with the film sheet facing the midsole and the mesh textile facing outward in the finished footwear. A related method of manufacture also is provided.

The present invention relates to a mould (10) for producing footwear (1) by means of direct injection onto the upper (2) of a sole (3), comprising a tread (5) and a midsole (4), wherein the midsole (4) is composed of a first layer (6) and a second layer (7). The mould (10) comprises a base (12), a pair of first half-rings (14), a pair of second half-rings (16), a first cover (18), a second cover (20) and a mould last (22). In accordance with the invention the mould (10) comprises gripping means (24) designed to fix selectively the first half-rings (14) to the base (12) or to the second half-rings (16). The present invention also relates to a method for producing footwear (1) using said mould (10).

Articles and Components with UV Radiation Curable Elastomeric Materials and Methods of Making the Same
20210371705 · 2021-12-02 ·

A method of manufacturing an article that includes providing an element formed of an elastomeric material or composite; placing the surface of the element in contact with a substrate; and affixing the element to the substrate. The element includes an uncured, partially cured, or fully cured UV radiation curable elastomeric material and optionally one or more regions of an adhesive material. The element is affixed to the substrate while the surface of the element is in contact with a surface of the substrate by increasing a temperature of at least a portion of the element, applying pressure to at least a portion of the element, or exposing the uncured or partially cured UV radiation curable material to UV radiation in an amount and for a duration of time that is sufficient to partially cure the uncured material or to fully cure the partially cured material.

Footwear may comprise customizable support plates. Methods for customizing footwear comprising a support plate may comprise applying heat to the footwear article to raise a temperature of the support plate to less than the melt temperature of the composition of the support plate such that the support plate becomes non-rigid in a first state, applying force to the support plate in the first state to customize a shape of the support plate, allowing the footwear to cool such that the support plate is at a second state having a higher rigidity than the first state.
