Footwear component manufacturing methods

Physical foaming a footwear component with a single-phase solution of a polymeric composition and a supercritical fluid is provided. The method include temperature conditioning a mold and then engaging the mold with a robot that conveys the mold to a press. At the press a gas counter pressure is applied to a cavity of the mold before injecting a single-phase solution of a polymeric composition and a supercritical fluid into the cavity of the mold. The process continues with releasing the gas counter pressure from the cavity of the mold and then removing the footwear component from the cavity of the mold. The parameters of the method are configured for the formation of the footwear component in an automated manner.

SKATE OR OTHER FOOTWEAR
20220312886 · 2022-10-06 ·

A skate (e.g., an ice skate) for a skater (e.g., a hockey player). The skate comprises a skate boot for receiving a foot of the skater and a skating device (e.g., a blade and a blade holder) disposed beneath the skate boot to engage a skating surface (e.g., ice). At least part of the skate boot and optionally at least part of one or more other components (e.g., the skating device) may be constructed from one or more materials (e.g., foams) molded by flowing in molding equipment during a molding process (e.g., injection molding or casting). This may allow the skate (or other footwear) to have useful performance characteristics (e.g., reduced weight, proper fit and comfort, etc.) while being more cost-effectively manufactured. Other articles of footwear are also provided.

METHOD AND INJECTION MOLDING SYSTEM FOR THE DIRECT SOLING OF A MULTILAYERED SHOE SOLE

Some embodiments relate to a method for the direct soling of a multilayered shoe sole. The method can provide two distinct sets of mold frames for a first and a second shoe sole layer and a distinct order for the soling of the layers. In contrast to art traditional approaches, a first layer (e.g. a midsole) is first soled to an upper in a first mold frame and subsequently a second layer (e.g. an outer sole) is soled onto said first layer in a second mold frame. The method can allows for an increased design flexibility and the inclusion of additional functional or aesthetic features, such as air pockets, undercuts, toe caps or running sole tips previously not possible with direct soling processes. Some embodiments relate to an injection molding system equipped and configured for carrying out the method.

Methods for preparing a footwear article are disclosed herein. An example method may comprise disposing resin adjacent a mold, disposing a lattice structure in at least a portion of the resin disposed adjacent the mold, closing the mold using a lasted upper, injecting foam into the closed mold such that the foam operates to couple the lasted upper and the lattice structure together.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING SHOE, AND SHOE
20220079297 · 2022-03-17 · ·

A method for producing a shoe includes: preparing an adapter including a first thermoplastic and an energy absorber having a higher dielectric loss factor than that of the first thermoplastic, the adapter having the first thermoplastic exposed at least on a first surface; a contacting process of bringing a first bonded surface formed on a first shoe member into abutting contact with the first surface and bringing a second bonded surface formed on a second shoe member into abutting contact with the second surface; and of heating and melting the adapter by irradiating the adapter with microwaves after the contacting process to cause these shoe members to be bonded to each other via the adapter. A shoe can be produced by the method.

Articles and components with UV radiation curable elastomeric materials and methods of making the same
11136475 · 2021-10-05 · ·

A method of manufacturing an article that includes providing an element formed of an elastomeric material or composite; placing the surface of the element in contact with a substrate; and affixing the element to the substrate. The element includes an uncured, partially cured, or fully cured UV radiation curable elastomeric material and optionally one or more regions of an adhesive material. The element is affixed to the substrate while the surface of the element is in contact with a surface of the substrate by increasing a temperature of at least a portion of the element, applying pressure to at least a portion of the element, or exposing the uncured or partially cured UV radiation curable material to UV radiation in an amount and for a duration of time that is sufficient to partially cure the uncured material or to fully cure the partially cured material.

SHOE MANUFACTURING

Example shoe manufacturing methods and related computer readable medium for implementing a portion of said manufacturing methods are disclosed herein. In some examples, the method includes placing an upper member about an upper portion of a last, wherein the last is a form for the shoe. In addition, the method includes producing a lasting based on data relating to a foot of a user, and attaching the lasting to the upper member, wherein the lasting extends over a lower portion of the last. Further, the method includes molding a sole onto the lasting and the upper member; and removing the last from the upper member.

An article of footwear (10) that includes a liner (30), an upper (14), and an insert (50). The liner has an inward surface (31) that encloses an inner void (18) for accommodating a foot, and an outward surface (32) that defines a rear shaft portion (38), a heel portion (36), and a sole portion (35). The upper has a midsole portion (42), and surrounds the rear shaft portion, the sole portion, and the heel portion of the liner. The insert is formed as a single body of material with increased hardness and stiffness relative to the upper. This insert is arranged between the liner and the upper, and includes a protruding portion (54), a heel counter (56), and a shank (58). The protruding portion extends upwards from the heel counter and along the rear shaft portion, and provides a guiding trajectory for a heel during insertion into the inner void.

FOAM COMPOSITIONS AND USES THEREOF

Components for articles of footwear and athletic equipment including a foam are provided. The foam portion of the components and articles include a composition which includes a thermoplastic copolyester, the composition having a foam structure. A polymer layer is provided on at least on surface of the foam portion. The polymer layer can control or reduce the water uptake of the foam portion. Methods of making the compositions, foams, and components are provided, as well as methods of making an article of footwear including one of the foam components. In some aspects, the foams and foam components can be made by injection molding, or injection molding followed by compression molding.
