MOLD AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING FOR FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMERIC SPRINKLER HEAD PART
An injection mold for producing a sprinkler head part and related injection molding methods are described. The sprinkler head part includes a first, second, third and fourth mold portions. The first and second mold portions include first and second shaping elements structured to cooperatively form a body including a substantially cylindrical portion and a substantially planar portion, and two frame arms extending from the substantially planar portion of the body. The third mold portion includes a shaping element structured to form an orifice in the body of the sprinkler head. The fourth mold portion includes a shaping element structured to form a cross member connecting the two frame arms. The injection methods include injecting a composite material in molten form into the mold to form the molded sprinkler head part. The composite material includes thermoplastic polymeric resin and a plurality of reinforcing fibers dispersed in the resin.

The embodiments provide a polyamide-imide-based film, which comprises a polyamide-imide-based polymer, wherein when the coefficients of thermal expansion in the MD direction and TD direction of the film are measured at an interval of 5° C. in a temperature range of 300° C. to 365° C., respectively, the temperature at which the coefficient of thermal expansion in the MD direction or the coefficient of thermal expansion in the TD direction changes from a positive value to a negative value is 330° C. to 345° C., a process for preparing the same, and a cover window and a display device comprising the same.
END EFFECTOR, WELDING SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR WELDING COMPOSITE COMPONENTS
An end effector for welding composite components includes an end effector housing and a welding member mounted to the end effector housing. The end effector further includes a leading roller mounted to the end effector housing forward of the welding member and at least one follower roller mounted to the end effector housing aft of the welding member. The end effector further includes at least one first cooling air jet positioned to direct a first stream of cooling air toward the at least one follower roller.

An end effector for welding composite components includes an end effector housing and a welding member mounted to the end effector housing. The end effector further includes at least one first cooling air jet positioned to direct a first stream of cooling air toward the at least one follower roller.
High-temperature foams with reduced resin absorption for producing sandwich materials
High-temperature foams are produced and used in the construction of aeroplanes, ships and rail and other vehicles. In particular, the foams are further processed into sandwich materials by joining with two outer layers. To this end, a novel process is used for producing high-temperature foams (HT foams) which are particularly suitable for producing such sandwich components for lightweight construction. This process achieves an improvement in the processability of the HT foams produced and a weight reduction of the sandwich materials. The HT foams are furthermore rigid particle foams which are markedly more economic to produce than rigid block foams. In particular, a reduction is brought about in resin absorption in fibre composite processes through a process-related optimization of the surface constitution.
Solution-based additive manufacturing
Disclosed herein are solution-based additive manufacturing inks comprising a polymer, a volatile solvent compound, and a nonsolvent compound. With current additive manufacturing techniques, a wide range of functionally innovative polymers are left without the ability to be used in additive manufacturing. Improved additive manufacturing techniques to process advanced functional polymers are desirable. The disclosed ink is operable to render any chosen polymer useable in additive manufacturing methods. The composition of the disclosed ink allows for a phase inversion to occur to transition the ink from a liquid ink to a solid manufactured structure. Also disclosed herein are devices for additive manufacturing of the ink and methods for making the same.
Shape-memory polyimide nanocomposites and fabrication of same
The invention generally relates to polymer nanocomposite films that possess shape memory properties at elevated temperatures. Such films can absorb microwaves, are thermally conductive, are electrically conductive and have increased mechanical strength. In addition, the present invention relates to methods of fabricating such films into 3D objects. Due to the improved properties of such films more advanced sensors and microwave shields can be constructed.
Resistance welding methods and apparatus
Disclosed is a method of resistance welding between composite articles. A conductive element is provided between faying surfaces, having a plurality of lower resistivity electrode portions spaced apart along the length of the contact area between the composite articles. The electrode portions can be used to spot weld across the electrode portions, and along a longitudinal portion of the conductive element between the electrode portions by application of an electrical current. Also disclosed are apparatus for use in the resistance welding methods and composite articles and structures and elements incorporating the conductive element.

Disclosed is a method of resistance welding between composite articles. A conductive element is provided between faying surfaces, having a plurality of lower resistivity electrode portions spaced apart along the length of the contact area between the composite articles.
