COMPOSTABLE OR BIOBASED FOAMS

The present invention describes compostable or biobased foams that are useful for fabricating foamed articles and methods for producing the same. The foams are produced using a compound comprising a compostable or biobased polyester and a blowing agent. Additives including plasticizers and chain extenders are optionally included in the compostable or biobased composition. These foams can be produced using conventional melt processing techniques, such as single and twin-screw extrusion processes. In one embodiment, foamed strand profiles are cooled and cut using conventional strand pelletizing equipment. In another embodiment, foamed beads are produced by cutting the foamed strand at the face of the extrusion die and the foamed bead or strand is subsequently cooled. The resulting compostable or biobased foamed bead has a density less than 0.15 g/cm.sup.3 and the foam is compostable, as determined by ASTM D6400.

ETHYLENE-VINYL ALCOHOL COPOLYMER COMPOSITION, PELLETS, AND MULTILAYER STRUCTURE

An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition contains: (A) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; (B) a styrene derivative; and (C) an iron compound; wherein the iron compound (C) is present in an amount of 0.01 to 5 ppm on a metal basis based on the weight of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition has ultraviolet absorbability even without a known ultraviolet-absorbing agent blended therein, and is excellent in heat stability and reduced susceptibility to coloration.

A matte synthetic paper is a biaxially oriented polypropylene synthetic paper having a thickness of 25 to 300 m, and includes a printing surface layer as an outermost paper layer. Moreover, by adding a mist flour or a thermoplastic elastomer, the haze and gloss of the printing surface layer can be improved. According to Tappi T480, the printing surface layer having gloss of 15 to 50% is suitable to be printing paper.

An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition contains: (A) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; (B) a compound containing a conjugated polyene structure; and (C) an iron compound; wherein the iron compound (C) is present in an amount of 0.01 to 20 ppm on a metal basis based on the weight of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition is less susceptible to coloration and is excellent in heat stability.

According to an example, described herein is a threedimensional printing composition comprising: a polymeric powder build material comprising a thermoplastic polymer powder composition, wherein the thermoplastic polymer powder composition comprises: (a) at least 50 wt % of a C3 polyolefin, or a mixture of two or more polyolefins including at least 60 wt % of a C3 polyolefin based on the total weight of the mixture of the two or more polyolefins, (b) 0.1 to 1 wt % antioxidants, (c) 0.1 to 5 wt % flow aids, (d) 0-10 wt % of a surface modifying agent, (e) 0.05-wt %-10 wt % antistatic agents, (f) 2 wt % to 40 wt % filler, wherein the total of (a) to (f) is 100 wt %.

An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition contains: (A) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; (B) a long Periodic Table 4th-period d-block metal compound; and (C) an iron compound; wherein the iron compound (C) is present in an amount of 0.01 to 5 ppm on a metal basis based on the weight of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition exhibits improved impact resistance and heat stability (color tone deterioration-suppressing effect and coloration-suppressing effect).

Process for manufacturing a densified polymer powder comprising compressing a polymer feed that has a bulk density of less than or equal to 240 kg/m in a roll compactor comprising at least two compaction rolls to obtain a densified polymer material, wherein a gap between the two rolls is 0.5 to 10 mm, wherein the compaction rolls operate at a speed of 3 to 30 rpm, wherein an applied pressure of the roll compactor is 0.5 to 5 MPa, and milling the densified polymer material to obtain a densified polymer powder, wherein a bulk density of the densified polymer powder is greater than or equal to 250 kg/m3.

The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition is substantially free from coloration and excellent in heat stability.

A melt-formable ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition and a multilayer structure are substantially free from heat coloration. The melt-formable ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition contains: (A) an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; (B) an alkali earth metal compound; and (C) an iron compound; wherein the iron compound (C) is present in an amount of 0.01 to 20 ppm on a metal basis based on the weight of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition.
