BRAIDED COMINGLED TOW FILAMENT FOR USE IN 3D PRINTING
A feedstock configured for use in an extruder in an additive manufacturing system is configured as a braided comingled tow filament. A method of producing the braided comingled tow filament includes providing a bundle of comingled tow material having a fiber count ranging from about 1,000 fibers to about 25,000 fibers having thermoplastic fibers comingled therewith, wherein the tow material in the filament ranges from about 50 to 75 volume percent and the volume percent of the thermoplastic material ranges from about 25 volume percent to about 50 volume percent. The method includes dividing the length of comingled tow material into sections, twisting each section into a strand to form a plurality of strands of twisted tow material, and braiding together the strands.
LIGHT-CURED COMPOSITE INSOLE
The present invention describes a shaped footwear device intended to be used as a supportive insole or orthotic and a system and methods for making the same. The footwear device includes a top foam layer, a light-cured composite material layer, and a bottom textile layer. The footwear device is created by conforming a pre-cured insole assembly to the plantar surface of a foot or foot mold and then exposing the pre-cured insole assembly to light to create a shaped footwear device with a light-cured composite material support plate.
Manufacturing method of reinforced structure
A manufacturing method of a reinforced structure includes a step of preparing a stringer that has a fiber exposed surface, a step of disposing an electrically conductive protection member on the fiber exposed surface to cover at least a part of the fiber exposed surface, a step of arranging the stringer on a skin having an uncured resin component, and a step of curing the skin after the arranging. The electrically conductive protection member includes a composite material made of combination of a resin component and an electrically conductive fiber component. The step of curing includes curing the skin and the electrically conductive protection member simultaneously. The manufacturing method can prevent edge glow without increasing the number of production steps.
PROCEDURE AND SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURING A PART MADE FROM COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND PART MADE FROM COMPOSITE MATERIAL OBTAINED BY MEANS OF SAID METHOD
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a part made from composite material, having a body and one or more continuous fibre bundles in its interior, characterised in that it comprises the stages of: a) obtaining a body that includes one or more tubular cavities in its interior that extend between a first end, disposed on the outer surface of the body and which comprises an inlet orifice, and a second end, opposite to the first end; b) introducing resin in the liquid state and a continuous fibre bundle in the interior of at least one tubular cavity through its inlet orifice; and c) curing the resin until it solidifies, adhering to the body and fixing the continuous fibre bundle. The invention also relates to a system for manufacturing a part made from composite material and to the part made from composite material obtained.
Structural fiber component for injection molding in head mounted displays
A set of augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) glasses are disclosed. The glasses comprise a fiber reinforced structure. The fiber reinforced structure includes a continuous fiber component. The fiber reinforced structure also includes a thermoplastic material injection molded over the continuous fiber component, wherein the thermoplastic material surrounds the continuous fiber component. The glasses also comprise electronics that are coupled to the fiber reinforced structure, wherein the electronics are configured to facilitate presentment of imagery onto a lens of the glasses.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING PRESS MOLDED BODY
The present invention provides a method for producing a press molded body, wherein a material X that contains a thermoplastic resin Rx and carbon fibers A having a weight average fiber length L.sub.WA and a material Y that contains a thermoplastic resin R.sub.Y and carbon fibers B having a weight average fiber length L.sub.WB are heated, and the heated material X and material Y are pressed within a mold at the same time, thereby producing a press molded body which has a region X that is formed of the material X and a region Y that is formed of the material Y. This method for producing a press molded body is configured such that: Lw.sub.B < Lw.sub.A; Lw.sub.B is from 0.1 mm to 15 mm (inclusive); and the press molded body has a transition zone XY wherein the region X and the region Y overlap with each other.
FRICTION STIR SPOT WELDING METHOD AND WELDED ASSEMBLY UTILIZING SAME
A first member formed of a thermoplastic resin molding mixed with a fiber material and a second member formed of a molding containing at least a thermoplastic resin are welded by friction stir spot welding using a double-acting tool for friction stir spot welding. An overlapping part between the first member and the second member is formed, and the tool is disposed against the overlapping part while the pin and the shoulder are rotated about the rotation axis. The pin is plunged into the overlapping part, and friction stir is performed to cause extension fibers to remain around a plunging region of the pin while the shoulder is retracted to release an overflow material. The shoulder is brought closer to the overlapping part to wrap the extension fibers into the overflow material when the overflow material is backfilled while the pin is retracted from the overlapping part.
