3D PRINTING TO OBTAIN A PREDEFINED SURFACE QUALITY

A method of 3D printing to achieve a desired surface quality on at least one surface of a 3D printed object comprising selecting a base surface having the desired surface quality; and printing the 3D printed object on the base surface, so that the desired surface quality is imparted to one surface of the 3D printed object during printing. The surface quality may be glassiness, roughness, smoothness and texture in general. Objects may thus be manufactured in which electronic components are integrated in or under a glass-like surface.

Nanoimprint template with light blocking material and method of fabrication

A nanoimprint lithography template, method of fabrication, and method of manufacturing an article using the same. The template includes a body having first and second opposed sides, the second side having a mesa extending therefrom, with the mesa having sidewalls and a surface. A recessed shelf extends around a perimeter of the mesa surface, with a light-blocking material positioned on at least the recessed shelf and at a thickness such that the light-blocking material does not extend beyond a plane defined by the mesa surface.

Provided herein is a method of making an object having a matte surface finish by stereolithography. The method may include: (a) stereolithographically producing an intermediate object by polymerization of a dual cure resin with a first light having a first peak wavelength, the object having excess unpolymerized resin retained on the surface thereof; (b) separating a portion of said excess unpolymerized resin from said object while leaving a thin film of unpolymerized resin on the surface thereof; (c) partially curing said thin film by exposing said thin film to a second light at a second peak wavelength; and then (d) further curing said intermediate object by heating, microwave irradiating, or both heating and microwave irradiating, to produce an object having a matte surface finish.

Resin molded product and molding device

A transparent resin molded product and a mold for molding the product are provided in which occurrence of silver streak in the resin molded product is prevented. The resin molded product includes a design portion and a non-design portion, at least a part of the design portion is molded by transparent resin, and a gate trace (a gate arrangement position during the resin molding) is disposed in the non-design portion (runner portion). A foreign matter restraining portion for restraining foreign matters and bubbles contained in the transparent resin is disposed in the vicinity of the gate trace of the non-design portion. The foreign matters and bubbles are restrained by the foreign matter restraining portion and are prevented from flowing to the design portion, and therefore the occurrence of silver streak on the design portion can be prevented.

In-mold electronic (IME) devices and their methods of manufacture comprise providing a substrate, a conductive track disposed on or proximate to a first surface of the substrate, a light-emitting diode (LED) disposed on the first surface of the substrate, electrically connected to the conductive track, and configured to emit light, a light channel layer applied to the substrate, the light channel layer comprising a transparent or translucent portion covering or surrounding the LED, and a decorative layer applied to the light channel layer or an opposing second surface of the substrate, the decorative layer defining an opaque portion and a transparent or translucent portion through which light emitted by the LED flows.

Protective covering for an electronic device

In one embodiment there is provided a protective case for an electronic device. The case has a substantially transparent planar back surface. The substantially transparent planar back surface is made from a compostable biopolymer material configured to form a rigid back surface and wherein the substantially transparent planar back surface has a terminal outer periphery edge. An outer bumper formed into a continuous side wall extends transversely from the planar back surface. The continuous side wall has an inwardly extending edge such that the outer bumper is configured to form fit around an electronic device. The outer bumper is made from a compostable biopolymer material configured to form into the outer bumper that is softer then the rigid back surface, and wherein the outer periphery edge of the transparent planar back surface is over-molded into the outer bumper.

Oral Care Implement Having Multi-Component Handle

A method of forming a handle for an oral care implement. The method may include first forming a core structure out of a first hard plastic. Next, an elongated handle body may be formed out of a second hard plastic, whereby during formation the elongated handle body is made to partially surround the core structure, while leaving opposing surfaces of the core structure exposed. Finally, a grip cover may be formed out of a resilient material and positioned over at least a portion of the elongated handle body. The oral care implement handle formed by the method may include a handle having an elongated handle body and a core structure. The elongated handle body may have openings in opposing surfaces. The core structure may be partially surrounded by the elongated handle body while protruding from the openings.
