An apparatus for forming a serration pattern on a light guide plate having a top surface emitting a light, a bottom surface opposite to the top surface, and at least one side surface, arranged between the top surface and the bottom surface, as an incident surface. The apparatus includes a base plate supporting the bottom surface of the light guide plate; a fixing plate facing the top surface of the light guide plate with a predetermined interval; and a serration core transferring the serration pattern onto the at least one side surface of the light guide plate by a thermal pressing process causing a thickness deformation of the light guide plate. Further, the fixing plate induces a changed thickness of the light guide plate to be uniform by limiting a thickness change amount of the light guide plate to the predetermined interval.

The present disclosure relates to a transparent lid sheet for being punched to a transparent sheet lid to be attached to a container to produce a package, said lid sheet comprising: a transparent base layer, which comprises a transparent polyethylene terephtalate layer with a barrier layer coated onto the polyethylene terephtalate layer, the base layer having a first major surface, which preferably substantially coincides with an outer major surface of the barrier layer, and a top layer providing a welding layer for welding the sheet lid to the container, the top layer coinciding with the first major surface.

SEMIPERMEABLE ULTRATHIN POLYMER MEMBRANES

A semipermeable ultrathin polymer membrane is a microfluidic device that comprises a substantially optically transparent polymer film having a surface area to thickness ratio of at least 1,000,000:1, and an array of precisely spatially ordered pores of a user-selected diameter defined therethrough. Such membranes can be fabricated by providing a mold having a patterned array of nanoholes femtosecond laser ablated in a surface thereof; applying a first polymer solution onto the mold surface so that the first polymer solution infiltrates the nanoholes; allowing the first polymer solution to dry and form a replica of the mold having a plurality of freestanding nanoneedles extending from a surface of the replica; removing the replica from the mold; coating the replica surface with a second polymer solution; drying the second polymer solution to form a porous polymer film; and dissolving the replica in a solvent to release the film from the replica as a semipermeable ultrathin polymer membrane. Also disclosed are multi-chambered microfluidic devices for studying cell biology in vitro that incorporate one or more such semipermeable ultrathin polymer membranes.

METHOD OF PRINTING A CONTOURED OBJECT USING COLOR AND STRUCTURAL LAYERS
20170341305 · 2017-11-30 · ·

A method of printing a three-dimensional color object having a contoured surface onto a substrate includes printing color ink layers and structural ink layers. A color ink layer is printed onto the substrate. Structural ink layers are printed onto the color ink layer to build the three-dimensional shape of the object. The contoured surface is formed from varying the heights of pixel columns in the printing information. The heights of the pixel columns may be varied by printing different numbers of layers in adjacent columns or by printing the same number of layers in adjacent columns where some pixels in a column have different thicknesses than other pixels in the column.

Single-step extrusion of fiber optic plates for electronic devices

An electronic device may have a housing with a display. A protective display cover layer for the display may have an image transport layer such as a fiber optic plate. The fiber optic plate may be formed from fibers. An extruder may form fiber bundles that each include a respective plurality of fibers distributed in binder material. The fiber bundles from the extruder may be fed directly to a block forming die. The block forming die may receive the fiber bundles from the extruder and output a unitary fiber block. The fiber bundles may remain heated in the block forming die such that the binder material of the fiber bundles seamlessly merges during formation of the unitary fiber block. A cutter can be used to cut off a layer of the unitary fiber block. This layer may be machined and polished to form the fiber optic plate.
