MULTI-MATERIAL EXTRUDER AND EXTRUSION METHOD FOR THREE-DIMENSIONAL (3D) PRINTING
There is disclosed a multi-material extruder and extrusion method for 3D printing, and more particularly to an apparatus and method that is adapted to extrude a wide range of materials for printing 3D structures. In an aspect, the apparatus comprises a frame adapted to receive a removable syringe or cartridge with a depressible piston in an extended position, the syringe or cartridge containing material to be extruded. An extrusion motor is under the control of an extruder logic module to determine how quickly the piston of the syringe or cartridge is to be depressed to achieve a desired rate of extrusion of the material. A flexible length of tubing connects the tip of the syringe or cartridge to an extruder nozzle, which nozzle is mounted to a stylus which may be hand-held or mounted to a chassis of a 3D printing device. A feedback signal is used to provide a feedback signal to the extruder logic module to determine the rate of extrusion of material. The syringe or cartridge may include a label containing information on the type of material in the syringe or cartridge, and one or more extrusion parameters to be used with the material in the syringe or cartridge.
CLEAR AND IMPACT RESISTANT POLYMER COMPOSITION AND FABRICATED ARTICLE
A polymer composition providing optical clarity and impact resistance includes from about 40 weight percent (wt. %) to about 99.9 wt. % (e.g., 50-95 wt. %) of a continuous matrix, and from about 0.01 wt. % to about 60 wt. % (e.g., 5-50 wt. %) of a dispersed phase. The weight percentages of the matrix phase and the dispersed phase are based on the total weight of the matrix phase and the dispersed phase. The matrix phase may comprise a polypropylene polymer comprising from 0 to 7 mole percent (mol. %) of units derived from ethylene, a C.sub.4-C.sub.10 alpha olefin or combinations thereof. The dispersed phases may be a propylene/alpha olefin copolymer having from 10 mol. % to 70 mol. % of units derived from ethylene or a C.sub.4-C.sub.10 alpha olefin or combinations thereof.
MOLD FOR STEP-AND-REPEAT IMPRINTING, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME
A step-and-repeat imprinting mold is provided that is capable of restraining deformation of an end of a convex and concave pattern formed in a cured resin layer when the mold is removed. According to embodiments of the present invention, a step-and-repeat imprinting mold includes: a transparent base; a transparent resin layer formed thereon and having a pattern region formed with a convex and concave pattern; and a light shielding member provided between the transparent base and the transparent resin layer so as to overlap the pattern region in part of the pattern region.
Composites transmissive to visual and infrared radiation and compositions and methods for making the composites
A composition comprises a copolymer made from a thiol terminated hydrocarbon monomer and at least one additional monomer chosen from the compounds of i) a terminally unsaturated hydrocarbon monomer, ii) an isocyanate functionalized hydrocarbon monomer and iii) a silane monomer substituted with two or more C.sub.2 to C.sub.8 terminally unsaturated alkenyl groups or C.sub.2 to C.sub.8 terminally unsaturated alkynyl groups. The composition also includes a particulate filler dispersed in the copolymer and a solvent. If the terminally unsaturated hydrocarbon monomer is polybutadiene, the polybutadiene contains from about 0 mol % to about 30 mol % of polymer units in a cis-1,4-butadiene form. Composites made from the composition and methods for making composite panels are also disclosed.
